Hey guys, I've been looking for an animé to watch for a while but none I've come across recently have really interested me.

Out of those I have watched, the ones I've enjoyed the most have been (I've tried to rank in order of favouritism, but it's not quite perfect):

Death Note - Absolutely loved this show up until Near. I can't stop watching it, it's ridiculous how many times I've seen it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (also the movies, I have been absolutely adoring them) - Either this or DN has to be my favourite. Probably DN though, I can't stop watching it every few months.

Code Geass (+R2) - Enjoyed this thoroughly, I'll probably be watching it again soon - though I did think they were pulling stuff out of their asses a little too often for me to enjoy it as thoroughly as, say, DN.

Sword Art Online - I watched this series upon release and enjoyed it enough to watch all of it again a couple of weeks ago. I found the VRMMO concept to be extremely interesting and thought the show's plot was good, though I also thought time advanced way too quickly. I read the Light Novel too after watching 'til the end of Aincrad, thought it was good enough until Gun Gale after which my interest pretty much dropped off a cliff.

Elfen Lied - I loved the darkness, the exploration into a broken mind, I thought this was an excellent anime

Everything below this point is, for me, a league below the animé I have listed there. Though I still enjoyed those below this point

DragonBall Z - Being born in the early 90s in the UK, this was pretty much my introduction to animé, and so will always have a place in my heart.

Ouran High School Host Club - I'm really not sure why I enjoy this show, I just do.

Naruto - Kinda meh about this, I stopped watching the animé some time ago as I never really got into it after Sasuke vs Itachi, but I've been following the manga for completion's sake. I really enjoyed it from the Chunin exams up to the Sasuke Retrieval Arc though, it's just fallen out of grace for me since.

Rave Master - I enjoyed this show for a time, when I was still new to animé, and still go back and revisit a couple of episodes now and then but it's not the deep love I have for those at the top of this list.

I've also tried watching One Piece, Bleach and Fairy Tale, but have found them to be a tad too Shonen for me. And, after several recommendations, I gave Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan a go, but got seriously bored after the second episode (usually I give shows I don't yet like a go beyond this point, but for some reason this series invoked in me a stifling, almost suffocating boredom I couldn't go on with.)

Enjoying the VRMMO aspect of SAO got me to watch a few episodes of Accel World, but it didn't manage to capture my imagination anywhere near as well as SAO did and I soon stopped with that also.

There are plenty of others, of course, but I can't really think of them off the top of my head.

Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Ooh, this is a nice post, let's see what I can do. Basically, you seem to have a thing for psychological action shows, and so do I, so hopefully I can be of some help here. These shows are just what I consider some of my favorites. I'm not really categorizing them too heavily. But here goes:

Fate/Zero - Hmm, it's got a lengthy premise which I'd not bother explaining right now. Basically, it's really good. It's got some nice philosophical discussions, and some commentary on human nature. Usually, I think those sorts of things come off as rather pretentious, but this show is done really well. It's a bit confusing and slow-moving at first, but it picks up really nicely. It's also got some of the highest production values I've seen in an anime. Plus, you get a sequel, a movie for the sequel, and at least 2 spin-off things. It's a good franchise.

Steins;Gate - This is a good sort of restrained sci-fi show about a bunch of college kids messing around with time-travel (as a very rough explanation of the premise). This one again starts out slow and confusingly, and then picks up nicely soon after. To me, it had a really good sense of tension, where nothing huge may have happened, but yet it still piled on the tension episode after episode. There was some good storytelling to be had there.

Medaka Box - This is a strange little show by Gainax. Basically, it starts off as a semi-standard rom-com, and then slowly transforms into a completely non-standard shounen action show. The first season was enjoyable, but I loved the second season. But perhaps this is the Gainax fanboy in me talking.

Attack on Titan - Are you not watching this yet? You should be. It's got the same director that Death Note had, and it's definitely the most popular anime currently airing. I think it's lost a bit of the momentum it had before, but it's still more than good enough.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012) - I have a thing for hot-blooded manly men, trippy artwork, shounen, and classic rock. This has all of these in spades. For me, there's literally no reason not to like it, lol. Just don't expect anything reasonable or realistic, because that's not gonna happen lol. If it seems too cliche'd or 80's, you should keep in mind that the manga is from the 80's.

The World God Only Knows - It's a surprisingly good rom-com. It's got really good music too, which earns it bonus points. I dunno, I just thought I'd drop a rom-com in here. Plus, all the girls are adorable.

Anyway, I hope these help. Only watch what sounds interesting. Everything's on Crunchyroll, except for Steins;Gate (Hulu or Funimation) and JoJo's (which isn't really anywhere officially >_>).

Also, I don't know how far you are in Fairy Tail, but I'm on episode 32 and I love it. It's got the same author as Rave Master, perhaps it'll pick up a bit from where you left off.

I'd add Black Lagoon to TrueGoober's recommendations; it's about a young white-collar worker named Rokuro Okajima (or Rock) from Japan who falls in with a small band of smugglers during a business trip off the coast of Southeast Asia.

It's crazy and fun and all that, but what I think made it truly great was the intense ideological schism between Rock and Revy (a Chinese-American gunslinger). Benny (the tech guy) and Dutch (the boss) makes up the rest of the crew.

Besides that, based on what you said about Elfen Lied I'd suggest a movie series called Kara no Kyoukai. But most of it is being directly cut into an anime which'll start airing in about a month, so you can keep an eye out for that.

And keep Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann on your back-burner. It took me awhile to come around to it after I was told about it (a couple years in fact), but it really is a great series once you do. Potentially one of the best of its decade.

I am looking for a romance anime that has a similar main character/love interest as Shiori from The World God Only Knows. very quiet shy and not really social. I would like it to be a typical high school scenario also. I'm prone to be into innocent shoujo anime like Kimikiss.
long as its got a character like I mentioned earlier.

Thanks!

This might seem odd at first, but you might have a look at "Welcome to the NHK". Not strongly romantic, but it's kind of in there somewhere...

So I have been watching a lot of action animes and I want more.

For some reason I can't think all that straight this morning but I can recommend you one action anime that you probably haven't seen called Ben-To.

Basically, a guy who had recently moved in goes to buy a half-price box of food at the supermarket and gets knocked out randomly. Eventually, he discovers an entire underground fighting ring revolving around fighting to see who can earn all of the leftover bento boxes once they go half-price.

It sounds really stupid, and probably is, but I loved it. It was by the same people that made JoJo's. The action scenes themselves are really nice and dynamic, and there's lots of use of unconventional weapons, like chopsticks and shopping baskets lol

Perhaps more recommendations later

EDIT: Thought of more.

Medaka Box - Think of this as Haruhi Suzumiya x JoJo's. It actually starts out as a romantic comedy, but goes through a genre-shift at around episode 9 and by the end of the first season is a crazy awesome shounen action series. The entire second season even crazier.

A Certain Magical Index / A Certain Scientific Railgun - Home to the most epic punches outside of One Piece. To be honest, I think Index is a bit silly. There's a flood of exposition all the time to explain the world's crazy rules, and then it still doesn't make sense lol. But I keep finding myself recommending it to people. The characters and the action really make the show, though. Railgun is much more grounded, has a more solid story, still has epic punches, and has a better main character.

Magi - Umm, it's a shounen series with good action scenes, and I liked it. Not much more to say honestly, lol. I suppose I can say is that it's not as silly or as strange as it first appears to be. It also has really nice aesthetics, because it was made by A-1 Pictures. Plus we should get a second season.

Mirai Nikki (Future Diary) - This is a gritty shounen/psychological action show with an amazing sense of momentum and an amazing cast of side characters (even thought I hate the MC lol). Nearly a must-see in my opinion.

Problem Children are... - A little 10 episode series about 3 kids with superpowers who are invited to join the Gift Games in an alternate-dimension-sort-of-place. Lots of epicness ensues. You can watch the PV on Crunchyroll to get what I mean.

So I started watching Magi and it is alright. Don't really like the main character too much but it is a good show so far. Started watching Ben-To and it is stupid. I love it though haha. Very nice girls in the show too so far lol. I guess they call it Fan service? Yea lol. So far your recommendations were the best. I plan on trying Mirai Nikki later. Problem Children.. Eh Idk. Just judging by the name it doesn't seem like I'd like it. I will give it a try after viewing the trailer or something.

Thanks again for the recommendations. If you ever want to recommend anything else you can :p

Hyouka and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! come to mind; they're only available as fansubs though.

Both are by Kyoto Animation (KyoAni) so they look really good (and I like the stories as well).

Looking for some good Romance anime to watch. I've basically exhausted the list of other genres, so I've moved onto Romance and I'm quite enjoying it, probably my new favourite Genre.

The anime that got me into Romance anime seriously would be Toradora!. And I've since branched out to enjoy various other anime like Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi, Say "I Love You", Bakemonogatari (with full intents of watching the prequel and the sequel to it already) and I've begun watching Ef - A Tale of Memories (again, with intents of watching the sequel afterwards) and Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Before I really got into Romance anime, I quite enjoyed anime that had romantic aspects to it like Blast of Tempest, Oreimo, Kokoro Connect, Medaka Box, My Little Monster, Mysterious Girlfriend X, School days (Until about episode 6 when things started getting stupid) and Good Luck! Ninomiya-Kun. Though that was hardly one of my favourites, I didn't despise it.

I'm absolutely certain that I'm missing some anime I've watched, but this should be plenty. I hope. Essentially I'm looking for a good tear jerker.

P.S: Feels odd asking for a good romance anime when I'm a guy. But I like romance.

Thanks for the suggestions TrueGoober! I've heard a lot of good things about Fate/Zero, and think I might check it out next as it does seem to be in my areas of interest. I've heard quite mixed things about Steins and JoJo though, which is why I haven't yet checked them out, but I might do so on your advice. And yeah, I've heard a lot about Attack on Titan recently, but haven't watched it as I've been away from the whole animé scene for a few months. As for Fairy Tale, I was really looking forward to it since it was the same author as Rave Master, but it just didn't capture my interest in the same way Rave Master manages to.

Thanks again for your suggestions, I'll be sure to check some, if not all, of them out soon!

Not a problem; I'd rather not to tell someone to force their way through something that's rubbing them the wrong way, but just keep it in mind if you're ever in the mood for a couple episodes of bombastic craziness. Later on there's an event (within the first cour) that dramatically alters the tone of the series and leads to it being pretty remarkable.

But still, not worth it if you're not enjoying it at the present moment.

I'm looking for a show similar to,

Kara no Kyokai, Witch Hunter Robin, Denpa Teki na Kanojo, Elfen Lied, etc. That has a romantic element that is explicit (obvious and conclusive, not hentai). Maybe not as aggressive as Rin.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

I think the problem with a lot of people that watch Steins;Gate is that they hear "this is the greatest anime ever made," and then they go into it thinking that that will surely be the case. This is a serious mistake. The leading cause of haters is hype.

I straight-up liked Steins;Gate. I didn't think there was much wrong with it honestly, other than it being a little slow. I didn't think it would be "the best anime ever," and it wasn't, but I still thought it was really good. And I was even surprised about a few things here and there. So there's no loss on my part

As for JoJo's, I think it's just a question of whether or not you're easily entertained by overly loud and boisterous people doing anything and everything in the loudest and most ridiculous way possible. I thought it was quite entertaining, and the classic rock references are hilarious. You've got references to Black Sabbath, Kenny Loggins, Cars, Steely Dan, etc. There's a character named Robert Edward O. Speedwagon Picking them out was really fun, personally lol

__________________________________________________________________

There's a set of shows that I incessantly recommend to people, because they're great. Kare Kano, Bokura ga Ita, Honey and Clover - these shows are a lot of fun and spend precious time on characterization. There are some other shows, however, that you may get a kick out of.

Kobato does not, at first, seem like a romance. It's a lot of fun, but not romantic, at least not in the modern use of the term. This changes towards the end of the show. It transforms into a love story - a struggle, by the characters, against what seems like fate. It's a very pretty show, and frequently uplifting. Its optimism can be infectious.

A show I nearly never get to recommend is Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl. It's not the best show ever made, and I didn't even finish it, but it does revolve around a uniquely problematic romance. I thought the beginning, at least, was interesting, and legitimately worthwhile.

REC is another show I have not finished, but I've heard good things. It's another romance, and it should be acknowledged for its thematic bravery in the first episode. What happened then - ya don't often see it in anime romances, I tell ya what.

Kimi no Todoke is frequently cited as a great romance. I found it a little strong, but heck, I still watched it all. It's straight-up shojo - when you start it, you'll know exactly what I mean.

Finally, I suggest you watch Koi Kaze. I'm not going to say much about this show, suffice it to say that it deals with a tragic love in an astonishingly nuanced manner. This is another case where you'll watch the first episode, and at the end, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. It's very well done, and I recommend it highly.

P.S. I hear Saikano is a real romantic kick to the balls, but I've never seen it. It's probably worth a gander.
