One Piece and Toriko two great fighting shonens. Samurai Champloo is also a very good anime made by the people who made Bebop.

Baccano By the same company that did Durarara!! with the same type of style but more so.

Gunbuster 2 You can see Ganinax working their way towards Gurren Laggann with this ova series.

Jormungand Adventures in the arms trade. (Her name is Koko and she IS loco!)

FCLC Not even going to try to explain this one. Just try it.

Moribito Fantasy in a China-like land.

Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren't they? Just plain fun.

I'm on episode 9 I think, so I'll give it a few more episodes.

Hey all, I was here in these forums maybe a year or more ago to get recommendations and now I need more. The reason I even need to ask for help is simple, while I'm a fan of anime in terms of enjoying them like any other TV show - I have NO idea about the many, many types and genres. I can also show or tell you what I like and what I don't. I've tried to help myself by checking out the various types but it still doesn't really help me get any insight into what I would like to watch. That being said, I hope you can help.

So it can be really simple and you'll have a little background and history into what I like and watch (and have watched), here is a link to http://myanimelist.net/animelist/neoprimal&status=2&order=0 My Anime List.

So, what do I like?

- Fantasy/Magic/Fighting/Funny and/or any mix of them
- Silly or Stupid is fine as long as it's not absolutely pointless (Like My Ordinary Life)
- Happy endings are good. It doesn't have to be super happy, I know that's not how the world works, but not "wth, everyone's dead" sad because if I'm investing hours into watching and establishing bonds with characters, the last thing I need is for them to all to die by the end of the series.
- An actual ending ie: not on a cliffhanger or too abruptly ended (although I do love Bleach, Beelzebub and Ranma, all of which were abrupt in their endings)
- I prefer older/olden/feudal era, otherworldly, supernatural, alien settings. But modern day is OK, as long as it's a fantasy or some such kind of anime.
- I'm not really into high school romance type things. I don't mind if it contains characters who are in high school and are somehow romantically involved, but it should include other things too.
- I like robot movies. Not sure why I'm not a fan of robot anime. I haven't watched Gundam or Evangelion or really any of the sort but if you recommend some, I'll consider adding it, after all, I did end up liking Gargantia. (I heard that Evangelion was sad and had a bad ending, which is why I avoided it).

On the other hand, there are definitely shows I'd rather stay away from because of one thing or another. These have the potential to ruin the entire experience for me.

- I hate cliffhanger endings, I really don't appreciate them. Likewise, if "it was all a dream", I'd rather not watch it
- I don't like intensely sad endings (like, everyone and everything dies), it's a big letdown after investing time and emotions into characters and the story
- I don't particularly like sports anime for some reason, maybe because I'm not into sports
- I'm not a fan of stuff that's too out there ie: overly super duper whopper size complex or intensely deep and hard to follow
- I'm also not inclined to like full-on RomCom type stuff unless it includes elements from another genre

The perfect mix, as an example of Fantasy/Magic/Action was Inuyasha which remains my favorite. I also really liked Ranma 1/2 as a slapstick sort of silly anime - it was actually one of my firsts and what really got me into anime series.

My Plan to Watch list are all shows I'm desperately trying to like/watch. I'd have so much to watch if I could watch more than 1 or 2 episodes at a time. Death Note and Naruto are specially of note since people give them rave reviews. I will definitely get to them at some point and hopefully hit a stride.

That's about it I guess, this is about as thorough as one could get, huh?
Thanks in advance for any help you're able to give.

Mirai Nikki has one of the happiest endings I've seen.

Neoprimal
Robot anime:
I'm not a huge fan of mecha, so when I say I enjoyed one, it means a lot.
Gurren Lagann is a must watch
Evangelion Rebuilld movies are better than the original series in my opinion and move much quicker.

Fantasy/adeventure:
Spice and Wolf is my favorite fantasy anime. Be warned one of the main characters walks around psuedo-nude for a good portion of the show early on (it's like Barbie nude) if that means anything to you.
Tsubasa Reservoire Chronicles is pretty good. The first season is the best, but the second half of the anime kinda slips. The OVAs are good. It doesn't end badly, but I was unsatisfied by the end of the anime since I read the manga. You may not have a problem with it.
Angel Beats I'm putting under here because it has fantasy elements to it. It's about teens who are in the afterlife and are waiting to be reborn. The ending is really bittersweet. The show has action, romance, and comedy.
Avatar: The Last Airbender technically isn't an anime, but it is heavily influenced by it (in a good way. I've seen really crappy anime-inspired shows). Boy named Aang has to master wielding all four elements to save the world from the militaristic Fire Nation.

Action:
Baccano
Darker than Black
Katanagatari is set in Feudal Japan (sorta) and is about a duo that goes an a journey to collect 12 swords. The art style is different, but I think it's really cool.
One Piece is really cool. It's about pirates. out of the "Big 3" (Bleach, One Piece, and Naruto) it's my favorite.
Attack on Titan is another "must see" I normally try to wait until hype dies down around a popular show before I watch it, but I started watching this show anyway because all my other shows I was keeping up with finished airing. And it is well worth a watch. Its set in a German-like land. Giant Titans attack and military tries to hold them back.
Soul Eater
Fate/Stay Night
Fate Zero is the prequel to Fate/Stay Night. I prefer Fate Zero and it doesn't really matter which order you watch them in. Both series contain major spoilers to the other one, so pick you poison.

Comedy:
Gintama I haven't watched much of it myself, but it may be up your alley. It set in a weird feudal Japan setting and aliens are involved.
FLCL is a must watch. And its only 6 episodes long.
Sgt Frog is one of my favorite comedies. I'd give it a try. It's about a group of frog aliens that get stranded after a failed invasion of Earth. There's a lot of pop culture references.
The Devil is a Part-timer is a show about the devil that is forced to work at McRonalds for reasons. It's actually hilarious and has a lot of heart. You really grow to like the characters.

Other:
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Christo is a futuristic retelling of The Count of Monte Christo. It is a fabulous show with amazing art.
Monster if you get around to watching Death Note and like it, I'd definitely reccomend this. It's a bout a doctor that tries to hunt down a serial killer whose life he saved. It's a psychological thriller.
Mawaru Penguindrum is a show that you can enjoy on the surface or go really deep and analyze it. You can enjoy it either way. Two brothers have to acquire the "Penguindrum" to save their sick sister (who has had her life lengthened due to an "alien hat"). It has themes about family and love. It can be really funny, too.
Black Butler is set in Victorian-era London. It's about a boy who forms a contract with a demon to get revenge on the people who killed his parents. He fights the underground-crime scene in service to the queen. It sounds really serious, but the show is also very funny and has some great characters.
Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad if you like rock music, watch this show. It's about a boy who picks up guitar and joins a band. Really great show.

That's all for now. Hope this helps!

Ok. I asked about this before, but didn't really get a good answer. I want to watch a music-based anime. I want to stay away from High School clubs like K-On and Tari Tari. And preferably not something about pop idols, like Idol M@ster.

I watched Kids on the Slope and loved it, but that didn't really revolve around music as much as I'd like.
I want something like Beck or Nana.

A good fashion-based show would be cool, too. Something like Paradise Kiss, Neighborhood Story, or even Princess Jellyfish.
Thanks!
