The use of chemistry has been stated before..

"5. *IMPORTANT!* It's common for contests to insert a key to prevent story stealing. For this contest, I will ask that you insert two references to chemistry history, chemical reaction, or just the word chemistry. Highlight this please in your submission. And yes, using them in metaphors is perfectly cool. Think things like, "The air in here was cold enough to freeze water". Things like that."

".. you can use metaphors, likenings, just the words themselves, and anything from those subjects."

Just give reference to either the word "chemistry" or something that is linked to chemistry.

It could be as easy as saying (Okay.. *digs out my chemistry notes..*)

~~ He deposited the contents of the bag. The rocks clattered to the bench top disturbing the silence. Then it got risky. He placed a small pile in a solid stone container, and started pouring (haha I put purring here just then..) the moonlight liquid over it. He heated this solution and with delight, watched as riches formed before him.

Haha okay, that was just a random thing when I searched for gold extraction and purification; I just created from this fact sheet " Amalgamation is a mercury based process which works because of gold's willingness to be dissolved by mercury. The mercury is applied on an ore, picks up the gold, and the resulting amalgam is distilled, with the mercury being boiled off to remove it.". So that is in reference to "chemical - reaction".

For something uhm less involved with "chemistry"..

~~The water splashed on the dusty window. It went splat and scattered a little. The little girl watched in amazement as the drop formed into the perfect circle- pure and holy. Suddenly the windscreen wipers removed that piece of bond between her and the transparent formula.

Now that was in reference to water as a polar molecule (aka water attracts water).

Something simpler and shorter.. (uh this is hard ><)

Oh! ~~ The flower wilted.

The use of "chemistry" doesn't have to be very blunt, it can be very subtle. It isn't the theme, so you don't have to write a story on the history of how chemical elements were found. Even in a love story, "the chemistry between them is inseparable (like ionic bonds)" should be fine.

does the story have to be complete?

I think the answer would be yes...If you wanted to get anywhere in the ranking anyway. You also have a month so it should not be hard to finish within the time period ^^

The answer is a yes. Short stories are standalone plots.

If i write the theme, does it included in the word count?Because i already having trouble writing below 5000 words

No, thats seperate. title, forewords, and theme-packs will not be counted.

Remember, you don't have to include it, and it won't be counted.

Oh sorry,i usually write out the theme after i finish the story so that my teacher can understand my essay better. That is how i do it everytime

o.o you can write your story, THEN figure out what you think of it. You don't need to have it either, I just thought it'd be nice to hurry along submission scanning by the judges.

One more question, by saying "two references"
"For this contest, I will ask that you insert two references to chemistry history, chemical reaction, or just the word chemistry."

Did you mean, to repeat something about chemistry (history, chemical reactions, etc.) at least twice in the submission?

To Below Post: Thanks Julia..

PS: By the way I didn't know that "1+1 = 2" until you told me..! O_O

Yes.. 2 = 1 + 1

The most simple example I can think of:

Person 1: "I just can't seem to remember this equation. My mind has frozen already."
Person 2: "Me too, I'm just going to fail the chemistry test on formulas."

i was able to write A LOT in the past couple of days...

so i was wondering if the word count has to be the maximum of 5000 words...

because i was able to write at least 5200 words...

i'm not really sure if i want to cut some parts out, but would it be okay for me to turn in something with that amount?

or shall i cut it down more... possibly ruining the quality of my work?
(although it may not be too good...)

I'm not entirely sure if you're aware of this or not but your standards for length are very different from each other. You took your words per page estimate (I'm assuming) from some random search you've done online, that number was 250 words per page. When writing in a Microsoft Word document top to bottom with standard margins and format the average word count per page will probably end up being upwards of 600. Meaning if someone submits a 20 page story in that format you can expect it to be far more than double the allowed word count. You mentioned the real length limit being around 5000 words, you should state this clearly instead of the page limit. I submitted a story vastly over 5000 words but still within the page limit, please correct the page count in the main post.

sorry to ask again but my story is 5307 words exactly around 17 pages. Can't I submit it like that or do I really have to cut it down? Coz the problem would be it would ruin the story development
