i see people getting into who's the cutest character and stuff and getting into hentai and all the other stuff that goes along with that. but my personal opinion is thats a good bit to far. animes are a great art form of art and can have really great storylines that are deeper then any other form of visual entertainment. but how far is far enough and how far is to far. could i get some other opinions on this and does anyone agree with me on this? cause i believe it's people taking it to far into their normal lives that gives this great industry a bad name.

there is a line, boku no pico crossed it. It makes anything like kodomo no jikan or lotte's toy seem tame, but you also have to remember that somethings are meant for adults. The school days game for example is for adults "even with the sex it's still a good story/emotions" then there is clannad which can be enjoyed from people 12 and up "game included"

Too far, I suppose, would be when you become so far involved in it that it becomes a surrogate for reality. When it starts to negatively affect your life whether that be straining relationships, missing time at work, causing others trouble, ect. This would be the case for pretty much any addiction.

As long as you are happy with your life, not annoying those around you or being a completely unproductive member of society, it shouldn't matter how involved you get.

yes but what i'm getting at is when people go to for more then just a story. also when people start acting out in public scenes from animes (those people really get on my nerves cause they scare so many people away from anime and make parents think that if you watch anime your going to be a crazy person)

you mean kids acting out naruto? Well i really don't know much about that but kids are going imitate what they see and certian things shouldn't be seen by kids, this can be said about games, music, books and any other form of entertainment. Not unless kids are playing "higurashi" and killing people with base ball bats or going all school days and have sex orgies "anime plot only btw" but still I wouldn't worry to much. If your worried about what others might think show them shows that can appeal to wider audience, Dead man wonder land, gurren lagann etc. I know what your talking about though "weeabos" should sum it up.

See, something like this may well be viewed as too far if it is to the point that it is bothering the people around them. This can easily be remedied, however, by getting together somewhere private and doing it there. They are not necessarily crazy because they want to act out a scene. They just shouldn't bother others when doing it. Now if they are doing it when they should be in school or at work, then, IMO, that is too far.

actually i don't consider the 16-30 year olds i've seen doing this most of the younger kids aren't acting out like that from what i seen they actually just enjoy it. i just think its creepy when i see a grown man come into my work and hes doing hand signs...

yeah i don't care about your private life i just don't like people acting out in public and basically making a mockery of a great form of art. but sadly they do it way to much in public. in the school i went to i actually had to be very blunt to let people know if i watch anime or not because 99% of the others that did where running down halls and acting like they were fighting... yeah i had people who wouldn't believe me when i told them just cause i didn't act like a idiot.

Don't put lolicon and incest together with everything else. There are many other genres other then those people can be too far into.

As said above, it's about the time when you start losing friends, family, and your life in general. If you yourself are okay with it, I guess it wouldn't matter, except our taxes are paying for you.

When you don't have any hopes, ambitions or dreams left, that's about the time when you're too far into it.

Another tell-tale sign is when it starts to take time into other, more important things, such as school, time with friends and family, and work. I suppose sleep is okay, because it's your own body, you decide what you do with it, unless you start having to sleep in the above times. (although that's really only an excuse for me.)

Basically, when it comes to a point where it continually interferes with your daily life and you can no longer live life normally, e.g. spending all your money on figurines and dvd's, and not being able to buy food.

Another example is when you start losing your humanity. I'm sure that you yourself can figure out when that is.

Sorry if this doesn't sound as good as some of my other rants. I'm feeling sick and can't concentrate.

Obviously. You seemed to confirm everything I just stated. And sleep is overrated. Family is just an illusion, also.

Something can only be confirmed when seen from at least two different people's views. Also, I elaborated. Also, a quote.

‘You're somewhere among those lights, listening to the ringing of the New Year Bells, aren't you? That's good enough for me. Laughing with your family in a cosy room, awaiting the arrival of the New Year. That's what happiness is about.’ –Minami-ke

Although I can see where you're coming from about family.

So it is that you have gone possibly too far into it yourself. For me, I know what is right, and draw the boundary lines between reality/fantasy, though that took getting pretty far in to be capable of it. The importance of family and everything else precious is insofar where it does a person any good. How many dysfunctional families have there bee due to petty differences and numerous mismanagement issues? Far too many. As for our professions, (if any) some of us do what we have to to support our chosen ways of life. We function singularly aside outside influences. There are plenty of times where I felt the need to be reclusive. In these moments, I gain further insight into things few others do, and that enhances me. I would question my motives if not for the realizations I experienced following my observations of those pursuing a conventional path, and how blundering it can be when they throw everything into it with an attitude similar to reckless abandon with a lack of planning. Wing and a prayer rarely works.

how far is too far eh? most likely when it becomes like an addiction- if it affects your social life and relationships, and you can't stop thinking about it, then yes i'd say that's crossing the line. as for hentai/ ecchi that's the person's own choice. for me personally i don't really like it because it dishonors and degrade women in a way- just my opinion...
