I drive at 55/60 mph. Waste of gas to speed.

I drive 10 mph over the speed limit. The exception is on streets in residential areas that are not very busy or are known for having a lot of pedestrian traffic, and near schools (regardless of the street).

I usually drive around the speed limit on the surface streets, give or take road conditions, weather, visibility, etc. If I'm going slower, I'll keep to the right-most lane. Speed limits are quite reasonable here in San Diego.

On the freeways, however... it really depends. I'll just say that I go, "with the flow of traffic." It's a thousand times safer to have traffic moving fast with a good flow than slow with people driving in random lanes. Example: Germany, despite having over half of its autobahn network with no posted speed limit, has a very low accidents/billion vehicle km rate. It's actually illegal to pass someone on the right over there in most circumstances. I hate when people drive slow in the left-hand lanes. SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT / KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS / LEFT LANE FOR PASSING ONLY. Et cetera, et cetera.

If the freeway is wide open, and no-one is around, and the weather is perfect, I may be found pushing it up to 85, but that's damn near unheard of Usually I go about 70 in those cases (except where the limit goes up to 70, then I'll go 75). My car really wasn't built for speed (massive old-man car boatmobile thing), so that's fast enough for me most of the time.

I've almost never heard of a speeding ticket for someone going less than 10 mph over the speed limit, but that's pretty much standard here in San Diego. Keep it under 80 on the freeway and you should be okay.

One funny story, once I was going about 90 on a two-lane highway out in the countryside (it was a German car, not my massive old-man boatmobile thing) where the posted limit is 55. I saw the distinctive headlights of a Crown Vic creeping up behind me and I thought, "oh hell, I'm screwed." He pulled up beside me, gave a smile and tipped his hat, and flew by me. San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

I find it strange that people think its cute and funny to ignore speeding laws. You think your invincible in your lil peices of crap but news flash your not! and your endangering the lives around you. I just hope you die and not take anyone out with you. Inconsiderate assholes. Women your the worse when it comes to driving, fact is fact, 9 times out of10 when a car is speeding up to me even when im alittle over 60 its a woman.

More often for me it's I see both men and women drive poorly, but it's been more men that make the stupid decision of pulling out in front of me without looking first.
