I try not to drive 3MPH over the speed limits set.

However, mountain passes with little to nonexistent traffic and unlabeled speed limits are the exception (most especially 1-lane mountain pass roads).

What I hate most are the people who speed in straight roads but drive excessively slow (like, granny slow) whenever there's a damn turn.

My old reply still stands...

Except, I try to stay within the actual, posted speed limit instead of setting some kind of "3+" over the limit thing.

However, there is such a thing as illegal speed limits, and when I find myself severely limiting traffic due to an illegal speed limit that is excessively slow for the area, I may simply begin to follow the flow of traffic.

As for mountain passes, the dark is a little more reassuring for one-lane deals. Two lanes, I'll still push it but not hog the road (I stay within the double-yellows and pass where legal such as broken center lines).

I usually go 60 on highways
I go the speed limit or under if I'm on civilian roadways. (I don't like how people speed up only to brake hard at a red light)
If I make a right turn or a turn in general I drive like a bat out of hell ( I like to feel the G's)

I started driving at or under the speed limit when I got laid off to save money. It is surprising what a 5-10mph difference can make.

Before I was getting about 23-24mpg average per tank of gas. I would drive 5-10mph over the posted speed limit on the highways, and 5 mph over the speed limit on surface streets and farm roads.

I then started driving at the speed limit on surface streets, and 5mph under on the highway. (IE, on a 75mph highway, I would set the cruise to 70mph) and then my per tank average went up to 26-27mpg, which is a big difference and saved me a lot of money. I've taken two trips to Kentucky in my car since being laid off (A third time in another vehicle) and I averaged over 31mpg on the way there and back. (1000+ miles one way) Before being laid off, I would set the cruise 5mph over the speed limit whenever I drove to Kentucky and would only average around 28mpg. Over a 2,000 mile trip, that turns out to be nice steak dinner that you saved.

On regular roads I drive an average of 10mph over the speed limit, on highways its more like 15-20mph over... of course this is unless my radar detector goes off and then I slow down until I spot the cop and then see him leave the area
