Has anyone here watched an anime called Shadow Star Narutaru, and if you have, what are your thoughts/opinions on it?

Personally, I think it isn't as dark and twisted as everyone makes it out to be, but it is definitely a disturbing anime. Only the last 3 episodes though, the first 9 are on the light side, at least in comparison with the last 3 episodes.

I was bored one day so I started watching the dub on Anime Selects that comes with Comcast Digital Cable.

It is a terrifying, messed up, twisted show.

And I stopped around episode 6 or so.
Three little words in a spoiler from someone else on another forum seals the conclusion that I will never be finishing this anime.

Nuff said.

I'd avoid the anime, since it cuts out halfway into the manga's story.

As for the manga itself, it's pretty infamous (half due to it being a "deconstruction" of the Mon genre, and half due to the hilariously ultra-violent acts inflicted on children), and probably worth reading for that reason alone. Give it a shot, but be warned that it gets pretty depressing (seriously, that spoiler above doesn't scratch the surface).

Oh, I know. The anime is actually toned down from the manga....

They were interrupted before that occurred in the anime. That didn't stop the revenge from being along those same lines, however, but worse.

Show that scene to someone, and show them the opening, and they'll probably wonder what the heck both are doing in the same show.

I've read the manga, and it really did leave me feeling very unsettled. Normally I'm not affected by intense violence of sexual nature, but that one scene genuinely disturbed me. I'm not sure why, but part of the cause may be that most of the series was, more or less, bright.
You've been warned.

I watched the manga before I ever got to the manga, so my opinion may be a bit skewed towards the anime. But even saying that, there are huge chunks of plot, and a number of characters, missing from the anime adaptation. It's a shame Dark Horse never published all of the books.
