What are some rare/lesser known dog breeds that you would want to see in an anime that you would create? The scenario would be whatever breeds are chosen would get so loved by audiences that they would go and buy it (and properly raise it because sometimes people will just buy a dog to conform to wanting the new hot item).

Besides wanting to promote the Hokkaido dog for American audiences (going with the word of aficionados of the Japanese breeds, only about 10 are in the USA), the one I want to promote is the very breed that my avatar represents.

First, some WikiPedia:
"Molosser is a category of large, solidly-built dog that includes several breeds, probably all descended from the same root stock. The name derives from Molossia,[1] a subregion of ancient Epirus,[2] ancient Greece, where the large shepherd dog was known as the Molossus.[3]
The proper noun "Mastiff", however, is used to refer to the English Mastiff, a breed that originated from Celtic dogs in England over two thousand years ago. Other terms include "Mastín" (Spanish), "Dogge" (Germanic), and "dogue" or "dogo" (Romance languages).

A Fila Brasileiro, showing the typical molosser build.
Breeds such as the Bullmastiff, Dogue de Bordeaux, Fila Brasileiro, Pyrenean Mastiff (Mastín del Pirineo), Spanish Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, and many others fall into the larger category of "Molossers", but are not "Mastiffs". Each is a separate and distinct breed.[4] The Boxer breed is also included, as it is a creation from other Molossers including the Old English Bulldog.
Molossers typically have heavy bones, pendant ears, a relatively short and well-muscled neck, and a short muzzle. Although some Molossers are used for search and rescue, such as the Newfoundland and the Saint Bernard, most are used as guard dogs, due to their deep voices and natural guarding instincts, or livestock guardian dogs for protection against large predators as well as poachers. Some breeds like the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog have also been used as cart dogs."

The Tibetan Mastiff is theorized to be the grandparent of a majority of the Molosser breeds.

Going to this article, this shepherd breed and the separate but similar Hellenikos Poimenikos (or Greek/Hellenic Shepherd/Sheepdog for convenient pronunciation) are held to be the parent breeds of most European Mastiff and other Molossers.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MolossosGR is a native Greek that breeds these dogs and has several videos.

An Arizona connection to him that I am thrilled with is his home city of Trikala (the birthplace of the Greek medicine god Asklepios. This god was son of Apollo who was also a healing god) is a sister city to Arizona's second largest city in area and population, Tucson.

Norwegian Lundehund
Also known as the “Puffin Dog”, this little hound was kept by the Vikings and used as an agile hunter. They have amazingly flexible joints, and are recognized as having double dewclaws on all four feet. Unfortunately, this breed has a very serious digestive condition that makes the absorption of nutrients from food difficult and shortens their life spans.

It would make a great sidekick to be honest. It looks really awesome.

chrome, it's also a Spitz, which WikiPedia says "Spitz-type dogs (the correct German plural is Spitze, though Spitzen is commonly used in the United States) are a type of dog, characterized by long, thick, and often white fur, and pointed ears and muzzles. The tail is usually curled over the dog's back". This is the same family that the Hokkaido, Akita, Shikoku, Shiba, Kai, and Kishu, (all 6 breeds are the major Japanese. breeds)
