Fujiwara Tatsuya to Take On Matsuda Yusaku Role
Popular young actor Fujiwara Tatsuya (25) is to take on the persona of a Japanese movie legend.

In the 'hard boiled' thriller "Chameleon" the star of the "Battle Royale" and "Death Note" movies will play a role originally written for the late Matsuda Yusaku* (1950-89) in 1978. The project has finally been realized by the original scriptwriter Maruyama Shouichi (59), who worked with Matsuda on several projects, and producer Kurosawa Mitsuru, the man who shaped Matsuda's career and is executive producer for the movie. Directed by Sakamoto Junji (50), the movie started filming at the end of November. Fujiwara impressed the director with his forthright acting style and willingness to take physical risks. In one scene, he barreled down a flight of steps on a motorbike and completed filming covered in bruises. The movie is scheduled to open in theaters next summer, and distributor Toei is planning on turning the movie into a series.

Here's a link for the pic.

Tatsuya Fujiwara stars in "Chameleon"

Tatsuya Fujiwara is starring in a hardboiled action film titled "Chameleon." The story involves a group of young swindlers who witness a kidnapping. As a mysterious organization begins killing them off, one of them decides to take revenge into his own hands.

The original script was written about 30 years ago, with the lead role meant to be played by the late actor Yusaku Matsuda. It was written by Shoichi Maruyama, who wrote several of Matsuda's films, and was to be produced by Mitsuru Kurosawa, who also often worked with Matsuda.

The movie was never made, but Kurosawa decided to revive it with director Junji Sakamoto at the helm and Fujiwara as the star. In addition, the screenplay was adapted to a more modern setting.

Filming started last month and just wrapped up. No CG was used for the action scenes.

かもめ The SeaGull
Just a little news. Tatsuya is going to be in a stage production based on Anton Chekhov's play 'The Seagull'. Here is a synopsis:

In 'The Seagull' the young artist, Constantine Treplef, seeks new forms, new modes of expression. He is tired of the old academic ways, the beaten track; he is disgusted with the endless imitative methods, no one apparently capable of an original thought.

Constantine has written a play; the principal part is to be acted by Nina, a beautiful girl with whom Constantine is in love. He arranges the first performance to take place on the occasion of his mother's vacation in the country...

Tatsuya will play the part Constantine Treplef (トレープレフ). The play will be shown at The Akasaka ACT Theatre (赤坂ACTシアター) (June - July 2008).

Horikita, Fujiwara star in drama special about Tokyo bombing.

NTV is producing a two-night drama special titled “Tokyo Daikushu,” which is a phrase referring to the bombings on Tokyo during World War II. The story will focus on two young pairs and their painful love.

The main couple will be a woman (Maki Horikita) whose father’s factory is bombed and a man (Tatsuya Fujiwara) who stops her when she tries to rescue her father from the fire. They meet again a few years later when the woman is working as a nurse and the man is brought in as a patient with a heart condition. The second couple is a Korean man (Eita) and another nurse (Yuki Shibamoto).

The drama has been in planning for two years. Involved in the project are art director Takeo Kimura, who was fortunate enough to escape the bombings, and essayist Kayoko Ebina, who lost her family in the bombings.

NTV will broadcast the drama on March 17-18.

Found out this morning that Tatsuya will be starring along with Shun Oguri in Ninagawa's stage performance "Musashi" planned for March 2009 in Saitama. Found the info. on YouTube also.

The guy is basically saying that that Tatsuya will be starring as Musashi Miyamoto and Shun Oguri as Kojiro Sasaki. The play is written by Hisashi Inoue (from "Tenpo 12nen no Shakespeare").

Also found the movie trailer from "Hebi ni Piasu" on YouTube but it looked a bit scary. There were no signs of Tatsuya on the tailer though.
