Why does the skin shrivel/prune in water after a long period?

When me and my bf and friends go swimming, how come they shrivel and i'm still normal even though we've spent the same amount of time in the water.. even after 2 hours.. i'm fine o_O Why is this?

Just throwing out some ideas here.

Did you have any sort of lotion on your hands.

Maybe it has something to do with genetics.

I dunno, just a few thoughts.

its because of the osmosis .. the cell of the skin is invaded by such molecular contents from the water which made it lose water from inside the cell then the cell shrinks

I'm a girl so i normally keep my skin moist and smooth.. could that be? but i only put it on my face..

ohhh.. i did think about osmosis.. but i'm not really that good at bio so i thought that i was on the wrong track.. haha..

Uhh Mind telling what kind of thread is this?... Nvm in fact cause i don't really understand what you mean technically.... Unless ur talking about standing in the freezing air after taking a dip in the pool...thats basic knowledge in fact.

Something that has to do with oils in your skin and since you stay in the water too long - it washes off. And it makes your skin all shrivelled up. I think.

i think everybody have different bodies... therefore they all function differently... i mean as in gentics not in organ functions
eg one of my guy friends have really wrinkly hands .. he was born that way...
its just a thought xD

u can google this or use wikipedia or ask a science teacher or look in a text book or ask a dermatologist or a regular doctor to find this information...but i'd just say this--everyone's genetics are all different which means that they're skin reacts at different rates and in different ways.
