What is it that causes us to search out a rhyme and and reason for our being? That we create deities to validate our own existence , and to ease the fear of death? Why is it that we so whole heartedly give ourselves to these thoughts ,instead of putting our faith where it really belong , in our selves and each other ?

What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

we search for a reason for our being because naturally, as time goes by, we feel that there is something better than this life. Theres no deities either to validate our existence. but I believe that God made us to validate our existence. and its our job to acknowledge that and be grateful that we are here.

Its not bad to put our faith in ourselves and in others that you love. but people are not perfect. I think its foolish to constantly rely on yourself and others. because were all the same and we share the same imperfections. But if you put your trust in God, I think it is definitely something that can be rewarded. It is ungrateful to think that God does not exist, when God gave you the life and soul you have now and family and friends that supports you and make you happy.

i would encourage those to go to :

http://beyondbelief2006.org/Watch/

it is a conference of scientists and public intellectuals that has been videotaped. it shows certain thinkers view on god from their specific fields, they are then debated and contested by their colleagues. I would warn that some lectures may get technical and possibly boring, but that is the price one pays when attempting to tackle such big issues. I would recommend the talks by Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Ramachandran, Krauss and Tyson.

It takes as much "faith" to believe that a Higher Power exists, as it does to believe that a Higher Power doesn't exist.

Personally if I believed their was no Higher Power keeping me in check, I'd go nuts. Psychopathically NUTS!

Stealing, raping, maiming, doping, you name it, I would try it, just to make sure I had done it once before I died. That's one of my fears, someone proves a God doesn't exist, and I know I have no reason NOT to do everything I want. I'd become the proverbial Devil.

Count your blessings, you self-righteous agnostics and atheists.
