Yes that's when we celebrate Confederation. It happened in 1867. You could argue that we really didn't become our own country until the late 1980's though when we made the supreme court (instead of the british privy council) our ultimate legal arbiter and brought home our constitution. Queen Elisabeth II 'reigns' here as Queen of Canada, not through some subordinate relationship with England. And of course like all constitutional monarchies it's our elected parliament that actually runs things... er... sort of.. (god I hate politics)

Also Newfoundland and Labrador had been the separate "Dominion of Newfoundland" until Joey Smallwood brought it into confederation in 1949.

so... um... yeah July 1st Happy Birthday.

Put in ear plugs.

The independence is nice and all, but I could do without the noise of fireworks and drunk people.

Well, the 5th of July is my friend's birthday. So yeah, I've been recording a harmonized version of "Happy Birthday" (which I'm failing at).
I don't live in the United States.

This. Although America's Funniest Home Videos is on, so at least I'm not completely bored.
