Kamisama Dolls

Wikipedia's Plot Summary:

Kyouhei, after moving away to Tokyo from his old town to get away from the events that happened, is on a goukon with his friends, including his old neighbor, Shiba. After drinking for a whole night, he and Shiba discover a dead, bloody, body in the elevator. He is told by his younger sister, Utao with her Kamisama Doll, that Aki, an old friend, and his Doll, are the culprits responsible.

Opening Theme:
"Fukanzen Nunshō" by Chiaki Ishikawa
Ending Theme:
"Switch ga Ittara" by Chiaki Ishikawa

Episodes: 13

Episode 1

The first episode starts off flashy with explosions and other cool stuff. Then we proceed to the Opening sung by Chiaki Ishikawa, known for the OP in Bokurano and an ED in Gundam 00, which didn't seem as good to me as her other songs. Then there's a party where we are introduced to several characters - two of importance. First, a lady with big boobies whose name I believe is Shiba and the main character whose name I forgot because I realized that the female had big boobs.

So far, the anime seems full of tropes and cliches. Not many interesting things but I'll watch a few more episodes. And the characters blush too much - in about half of the scenes there is blushing. What I like the most so far is the ED. I believe this anime has a bad start but hopefully future episodes will fix a somewhat boring start.

Edit: Grammar/Organized this post a little.

I certainly wasn't expecting something like this, although it turned out to be fairly good. The first episode was a little too rushed, but there is potential there.

And I agree that the ED is way better than the OP.

Liked the first episode, actually. Not insanely original but it kept my interest. I've seen way worse, that's for sure. Nice to see people that aren't 14 for a change, too.

Also, liked the OP more then the END myself.

I can't really discern the mood, or the plot of this very well. But then again not all first episodes are indicative of the entire series. None of the characters were really developed very much (ok one was but, we're not talking about that department).

I'll give this show a few more episodes because It's Brains Base. Durarara!! which was adapted by them didn't have a very clear start either but ended up as a very solid show.

Nobuhiko Okamoto is showing up in shows alot more often now, suprisingly he isn't playing the insane one for a change.

hmm i rather liked this one over some of the series that I have watched already, maybe it's due in part that I have seen so many moe~ shows and I just want some glimmer of gore/action that This fills in that need. I will say that I found my self personally interested from beginning to end and the fact we have a crazy alpha male bad guy "same va as accelerator btw" is enough to keep me watching. The huge plus I can personally give this show is that the male lead is around 19-20 which is highly unusual from the norm of male leads, so i don't see I doing to well in Japan >_>.."small rant over" Okay personally I disagree with the OP but there where some cliches but not enough to be bat you away like other shows.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot to mention that fact that the main character was an university student. I personally didn't mind the cliches/tropes but I did mention them because the show did seem to be full of them. The tropes/cliches, as Cecil said, will probably not turn you away from the show. Overall, it's a good show so far but the first episode could have been better.

Art style and character age takes us (with one obvious exception) away from the Moe-blob trend. Which is good.

One get's a 'bad things can happen to important characters' dark feel to this which may be good. No one likes to see their favourite characters die but if the authors prove unwilling to hurt/kill any characters, a show that is built on suspense loses it's tension.

I don't know If I've been watching too much anime but I often guessed plot elements before they were being revealed.

Overall, I'm certainly going to check out the next couple of episodes.

Action, Drama, Supernatural

That's what it's listed as on ANN, but I still couldn't decipher anything from what I saw. I didn't dislike it, I just don't get it.

I'd call it a plus too, don't see too many college/university settings in Anime and VARIETY IS VERY NICE JAPAN PLEASE TAKE NOTE. But i don't think the age of the protagonist affects sales too much. Tiger & Bunny is pretty successful and it's main character is in his 30's, yeah.. he may have the intelligence of a typical teenage shounen hero, but at-least his environment is a little more unique.

I really don't know what to think about this show, there's just so little information other than a summary which doesn't hint at much, and the flashback at the start was just a bit ambigous. I want to see it do well, but I want to see it tell me what the hell is going on.

Well my theory on what the hell is going on:

It revolves around the village the main character comes from. It's apparantly an old traditional village "that time forgot" it's also some kind of nefarious secret society that thinks it can give villagers absolute orders regardless of where they reside.

The secrecy and arrogance probably stem from the 'Gods' that The main Character's little sister and the first Antagonist appear able to summon. People with this summoning ability are called 'seki'

The flashback probably is a key event in the path that led to the Antagonist going wrong and the Main character losing/giving up is abilities as a 'seki'

The antagonist appears to have an unhealthy fixation on the main Character as well as being a murderous rebel against the village. It wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to provoke the main character into becoming a 'seki' again.

What all is involved in being a 'seki' beyond being able to summon 'gods' and being sequestered in the village I do not know. But it's clear the main character rejects it in his own way.

Anyhow, that's what I gleaned from the first episode. I have some further speculations but they represent theories and posibilities. The above is what I think the first episode meant to tell us.

That may be Aki's motivation now, but it seemed like Kyohei given up his responsibility as a Seki just before leaving, which means Aki was already imprisoned. Hopefully, they'll go back to those events, since they appear to be the central motivating factors for both the protagonist and antagonist.

The little sister was cute, and I like the fact that the main character looks like he's going to play more of a mentoring role, rather than the one who actually controls the god/mecha.

Not to mention, puppets!

I don't mind shows that seem to start off with a fully developed backstory, then slowly ease you in one episode at a time, but this... I must say I'm liking it so far, I'm watching it for what it appears to be without ever hearing of it before, but come on with the story in the first episode! I'm no dunce, I get what's going on, but I honestly stopped it after around 5 minutes in just to check if it really was the first episode, or a new series from a previous saga. My griping aside... Looks like fun.

Two hot guys, tolerable heroine, cute little sister... Amazing first episode! This looks like it has a good plot too. And I'm here for that. Can't wait for more.

funny you quote me on that, I am actually surprised for once in my life. Hell I love index/rail-gun and other things but seeing more adult characters isn't a bad thing either. "despite accelerator being a the biggest bad ass in long time. The down side i don't think you understood is the fact the hard core otkau don't want characters their age or who they can relate to "although the little sister will boost sells by 9000." This is going a bit off subject but hmm I am going to have a wait and see for the rest of the show due in part there is no telling where it's going to head.

I absolutely loved the first episode. Like you guys have said, it really is a plus to have an older protagonist. I'm getting really sick of the public school setting, and the wimpy prepubescent male leads. Anyway, I think they did a really good job putting enough out there to really capture people's interest, but hold back enough so that it can be more slowly revealed throughout the rest of the show. I think they made what they wanted to be known very clear as well. It can be a pain when you MUST rewatch a series to figure out what was going on in the beginning.

I'll continue this one for sure.
