It was very colorful and whimsical, but the lyrics were melancholy. The casting is great as well.

As for the chances of more than 11 episodes, when was the last time a noitaminA title got a second series?

Nodame Cantabile: Finale, which ended in March 2010. Unless you count the live-action Moyashimon remake.

And I heard about Usagi Drop's manga ending - it didn't faze me much at all but only leaves me with a weird impression when I really think about it.

I believe Shiki was planned for 2 cour/22 episodes, so it wouldn't really count as a "sequel." But I think it was the longest series to air on the block since the first Nodame Cantabile.

After reading several warnings about it I guessed how the manga ended. So I read the spoilers and it turns out I was right. I guess I'll just keep watching and hope they go for a different ending for the anime.
