Hi,

I have a question regarding the US only region lock which seems to be applied to a majority of the new content.

I understand that you have to work with the producers and studios (who are famous for being a pain in the ass to work with) to get content licenses but considering you have previously stated that the UK and Europe is a large part of your target market it would be nice if you could try harder to get licenses for these regions, especially considering that competing sites are apparently (according to what I have been told) obtaining UK licenses.

For the upcoming season there is stuff I would like to watch but due to the region lock I am unable to. When this is combined with the fact that all of the other new anime is crap it leaves me wondering whether I should cancel my paid subscription and use other means to obtain anime.

I don't know what happened to CR but this is real nonsense from CR. Some say this is because of AoD but I'm sure its not as stupid as this. This shows that CR is ignoring anime fans outside US and made no effort to get licensing rights outside US. Shame on you CR. Might as well go back to fansubs this season and no longer support CR.

I'm also kind of wondering why this is. I'm in the netherlands and I was absolutely thrilled to find that most of the spring 2011 anime were available here, but now so far only 2 of the summer 2011 anime are. I'm kind of bummed out about this because I fully intended to get a paid account this summer, but now I'm seriously reconsidering this as the shows I'm most interested in aren't available here.

I'm not blaming CR; I'm sure there's an explanation. I just really am curious why this is and if you guys are planning on making those shows available here in the future?

Really? If your going to blame anyone at all blame the anime industry in Japan. The suits over there have a hard enough time tiring to understand that there are fans outside of Japan. CR tries to get rights outside of the US but it's not just that simple. Companies like Funimation and all that have had their foot in the anime market for a long time so to them Us is more of a trusted country they can deal with.

It's not just as simple as just getting the rights. Since CR is a US based country it makes it a lot easier for them to make the deals, but when you are outside of the country you have to deal with other companies that may have rights or want rights to the series in that country, as well as music rights as well. Then you have copyright and as well how and what terms the Japanese company and UK agree on(DVD/TV rights). You may have to deal with 2or 3 other companies not including the US and Japan when it comes to outside market for anime.

Now can you see why this is a big mess and I have not even gotten into the complicated parts of all this. It really sucks, but you all are just taking everything for granted and think its as simple as CR just picks anime they want to show and it comes on here. I wish it was that simple but it is a much bigger problem and more convoluted and confusing then I really even understand myself.

It just pisses me off when people complain that CR is not doing anything, when most of the time it is out of their hands. Even companies like HULU, netflix, Pandora, Spotify, Itunes, audible, I can go on and on and on for a while. They all have the same issues. In one way or another they all have some issues with getting Internationale audience with their media. So next time you want to blame CR for not trying hard how about you look into some of the bigest companies on the internet can't even do what you want them to do all that well. How in the world do you expect CR to do it over night.

I'm fully aware of how much of a pain it is to work with the licensors. If you had bothered to read my post properly then you would of seen that I said that.

Do you have a rough estimate on when that will be completed by?

Well, I am really looking forward to it! Please keep us updated if/when you have new information!

And thank you so much CR for putting in so much effort to bring anime in this form to Europe! I'm sure I speak for a lot of fans when I say we really, really appreciate it!

I think I'm gonna cancel my paid membership till/unless we get some of this new stuff in the uk. As soon as there' some new season stuff, I'll be back to paying, I promise, but for now I just can't justify paying for only new two shows that don't interest me.

We're not detecting you as being in the UK right now. If you are, you should contact us.

I don't expect a response like that from a CR representative if you are one. I think CR is really ignoring users from UK and SE Asia even if they subscribe and only gives a damn about US market only. Shame on you CR. If you're not, you guys should do something about it instead of keeping quiet and left others in dark.

I don't think you're understanding the legalities and the difficulties of bringing content to countries other than the United States. CR has to negotiate with those who hold the original licensing as to who, what, and where someone can view the anime. It's not that they deliberately ignore users all across the world, especially the UK and South East Asia.. it's restrictions that are placed upon their original licensing agreement with said anime company. People don't realize that CR tries rather hard to be able to show content to a wide range of people, which has been stated many times before in countless of other posts here in the forum. There are a lot of paperwork and holes to jump through to be able to bring what anime they can to the world.

So, as I said, it's understandable that he would want to cancel his subscription, thought unfortunate (probably should have included that as well). The product simply does not cater to him to at the moment and I think anyone would agree with his decision when considering the world's economic situation.

EDIT: If you even bother to read any of the things that BasouKazuma has posted in this thread (i.e. links), you would see that CR is making an effort to do something about catering to the European audiences. So really, don't go making generalized and misguided statements that CR is ignoring fans outside of the US.
