And the second episode is actually crazier than the first, but becoming equally dramatic too. Brain's Base and Ikuhara coming together is a dream come true.

Oh, and a future diary, i guess that's important too. But the whole vagueness of the plot and the penguindrum kinda works for this show since it's clearly trying... it's...

Oh I don't know, all I know is I like it. I can't decipher Ikuhara's warped mind or his fondness for penguins all of sudden but whatever he's thinking of he should probably keep going - with mostly the penguins.

I have to say one thing though, the blue-haired girl and the red haired girl in the adverts and the ED... I'm just putting this out there, they could mess with genders here (wouldn't put it past them) FOR THE SAKE OF SYMBOLISM.

I do realise that thought made about as much sense as the second episode

I find it well, charming and wish it would have been picked up by Crunchyroll.

The OP reminds me of Arakawa Under the Bridge, and the anime as a whole is kind of like Bakemonogatari and Arakawa Under the Bridge had a baby, I LOVE IT [: the penguins are so damn cute yo, I love Penguin #1 : D

I can't tell if the show is written by people on mind altering drugs, intended for people on mind altering drugs, or both... But I like it! LOL!

I enjoy it so far, Though I feel the cliffhanger in episode 2 was unnecessary as it weakened the female's character development. So far the only screentime she's had is her being 'beautiful' and then immediately becoming a creepy stalker stereotype. I am waiting for episode 3, so that we can see some more character development.

As well, the hinted 'kiss' that happened at the end of episode one freaked me out. But then again, It's strongly hinted that he isn't actually related to them (Read: The blue haired brother stuttured in the hospital room when he said 'Stop being so cold to MY sister... er... OUR sister..' )

I'm not sure where this show is going but I'm interested, that is for sure.

Feels like Brain's Base is trying to go into a more SHAFT style. Feels like a series a SHAFT would do. And the style feels something likeit, although the drawing style is much more bland. They ended up using the same vocalist and band as Arakawa and Denpa Onna... (To ignorant people they're two other SHAFT works)

It has a good catch, and should develop into something good. It could easily fall apart though although Brain's Base generally does do a good job handling anime like this.

-sigh- Why isn't SHAFT doing anything this season... Does anyone know if they have something planned for Fall? Please PM me if you do...

From what I understand about the spoilers from the novel that were posted on 2ch, The incestual undertones actually become a more present thing.

That's fucked and now I'm uncomfortable.

The first time they did the survival strategy transformation I nearly clicked off, thinking it was the end credits.

This show is trippy. The 'survival strategy' song/thing the arrows and the bright but somehow 'off' background remind me of Revolutionary Girl Utena. (now there was a trippy series)

Not sure what I think about the incestuous brother or the stalker girl yet. At first I was amused.... then the tone of Ringo's thoughts and behaviour turned rather dark.

It's the anime version of Mr. Popper's Penguins!!!

This show kept popping up in anime podcasts I listen to like Anime Pulse and Anime News Network, but since it hasn't been officially licensed for streaming in the US, I had to resort to watching fan-subs online (Please forgive me, Anime Gods!!!)

It's a really weird show....but I'm somehow attracted to the show's offbeat vibe, in the same way I was attracted to Nichijou: My Ordinary Life's offbeat humor and structure. Compared to other anime shows these days, it's certainly unique. I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes---I really wish Crunchyroll picked this one up instead of the abysmal R-15 and Twin Angel.....I'm very intrigued with these first couple episodes, so I'll stick with the show to see how the show develops.

The SHAFT style adapted by Shinbo is derived from Kunihiko Ikuhara's work on Revolutionary Girl Utena back in the late 90's. And this is Kunihiko Ikuhara's return to the creation and direction of an original series.

Utena doesn't have crazy head-tilts like SHAFT shows, but it's filled to the brim with symbolism and "not-so-symbolism" and "are you sure that's symbolism i'm sure the director's just trying to mess with you".

I probably should've mentioned Ikuhara as the director for this and Utena in the original post, But anyway I think the comparisons with Utena aren't going to stop - and the incestuous thing... I don't know it seems to be all the rage at the moment. Not sure why.

I have no idea what is going to happen next, and I love it so far.

This anime is now on my top viewing list for this season. I actually think it is one of the best compared to any of the new anime introduced this season.
