I think Kodansha comics USA should do a new manga magazine here in America to compete with our Shonen Jump magazine! Like make an American version of Shonen magazine.
That would be cool...and they could also do like Viz did a shojo beat and make and American version of Bessatsu Friend! I think that could help their manga sell more and it would also be good that we wouldn't have to wait for manga releases that take forever.....unless you read them online xD Well maybe it's a dumb idea, but who knows If they did the bessatsu friend they could rerelease Peach Girl now that Tokyopop lost it, and put it in and also do like L-DK and Kimi Ga Suki...and they could license Hajime no Ippo and Ahiru no Sora and put them in the shonen magazine along where they're at in Air Gear and Fairy Tail. I would buy them! D: Um...but what is everyone elses opinions on this matter? Am I the only one that thinks it's a good idea? |

the biggest question here is: is the USA manga market big enough for such thing?

If "Shonen Jump," one of the biggest names in manga, can't make it as a magazine in America, I don't think anything else has much of a chance. |

yeah it probably wouldn't work out xD especially if they did an american version of bessatsu friend since the japanese version has barely any popular series.....lol.

Right now, the US version of Shonen Jump is still available in print, and some of its content is officially released online. But many other comics anthology magazines have been cancelled over the years (Viz: Manga Max, Animerica Extra; Mixxzine/Tokyopop magazine; Gutsoon: Raijin Comics; Dark Horse: Super Manga Blast; and at least a few I'm probably forgetting). Viz still uses the Shojo Beat name as an imprint for some of its products. And Yen Press still keeps the Yen Plus magazine going online, but it only includes the western comics -- the translated comics have been transitioned into other formats.
It's pretty clear that these aren't the best days for print publishing. Right now, Kodansha is taking a risk by selling only trade paperbacks. Most other companies are trying to sell comics through iTunes and other services. (I dunno if they're succeeding, or if they're doing it well... that's another topic.) |
