I have the same problem not me but then again yes but i only show my true self to those i feel comfortable with!
But thats something different!

My older sister cracks me up every time she does her dance moves or just her!!!
She truly a funny girl but she can't even be like that around our relatives, just our family.
If she can get over her shyness i bet she would have dozens of friends!

I watch anime 'cause it's a source of great amusement.

Due a little anxiety problem, I've problems being really true to myself in real life, on the internet I don't worry that much

~ No I don't try to escape reality through different means, though I probably did when I was somewhat younger.

uhm, i dont really think of myself as "escaping from reality" by watching anime or going on CR. Internet is a source of entertainment for me and I enjoy watching anime online whenever I have time. Lmao, then I guess I'm loner since I let people add me on CR but I never talk to them.

Well most people will only be afraid to be their true selves if they think society won't like it (for example people who really hate jews won't say it openly because they know they will be arrested for it, or at the least they will get criticised heavily, so why show your true character?)

Same here, unless they of course write something to me, which I'll reply to and nothing more

Is this thread telling me not to touch myself to Anime porn?

K. I'm editing this to add a serious comment because my brain just started doing things to give me ideas.

I think it's because it's also foreign while being entertaining and emotionally/visually appealing. You get curious and excited about how life seems in Japan. Just the way people in other countries might look at shows in the US and feel the same way. Unfortunately, cartoons in the US suck balls. Fortunately, US Hollywood films and music are the biggest in the world apparent by how people in other countries like the images and styles of the US. (ie. Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Orlando Bloom, Jessica Alba, etc)

But Japan seems to make the main characters normal people or sometimes even the awkward or clumsy person that people might relate to (rather than some cool vixen or playboy). It can be fun to be lost or day dream about a drama, music video, book, or even anime that moved you. I mean, aren't these all things that are supposed to draw you in and provide you with a glimpse at the world the writer wanted to share? Even before film, books with stories and poetry were leisurely hobbies people enjoyed to be engrossed in another world the story portrayed.

I, personally, don't like people that act fake-cute in real life though. I've seen girls that like anime act like anime and even guys, which is just freaky. And people need to get rid of those Naruto headbands. Unless you're in middle school or under, you might as well walk around dressed as a power ranger.

The only reason why I watch anime is its fun.. I dont like watching dramas nor go out with my friends. Humans as we are we had different personalities, some are outgoing, some are not.. but for me why should I have to make a cool image? As long as I know myself and as long as I doesn't hurt anyone I don't have to put a face on the public.. Being yourself is more than enough for others to judge what kind of person you are.. So I think fearing our true selves or hiding our self is not the reason why I watch anime.. Animes got a goodstory line than dramas maybe thats the reason why I was hooked with it...

I don't really see anime as an escape for me, but I understand that some people may latch on to it and bury themselves in it too much. I love anime yes, but I wouldn't choose it over real life though.
I think it's also easier to open up over the internet. You can be as ture to yourself as you want to be. I don't think it's good to be misleading or to lie, but since no one really knows the "real" you, can have more freedom to express yourself and not feel as embarrsed as you might be in real life if you were in that situation. Plus, sometimes you may have intrests that you may not find in your surrounding life. Say you are in a small town where ther are little or no anime fans. You can come to places like CR and find people that like the same things as you do.
