I don't really see anime as an escape for me, but I understand that some people may latch on to it and bury themselves in it too much. I love anime yes, but I wouldn't choose it over real life though.
I think it's also easier to open up over the internet. You can be as ture to yourself as you want to be. I don't think it's good to be misleading or to lie, but since no one really knows the "real" you, can have more freedom to express yourself and not feel as embarrsed as you might be in real life if you were in that situation. Plus, sometimes you may have intrests that you may not find in your surrounding life. Say you are in a small town where ther are little or no anime fans. You can come to places like CR and find people that like the same things as you do.

I like what you said and it's true...for the most parts.

Questions 1: sometime you need to escape reality into your own little fantasy world. Either due to stress or you hate the fact that everything is shitty.

Questions 2: No, nothing is perfect.

I think it's ok to not be your true self sometime people need to control themselves. Until you are happy and content about yourself you’ll just hide in the shadow lurking or floating around. There is the questions of animosity and the feeling of awkwardness when people try to be their true self. Like confessing their love to someone but still want to keep the friendships if said person was rejected. I know if I was my true self.. I would be in jail for public indecency LETS GO STREAKING!

I have to be honest when i say that i can only be my true self online1 I have thoughts and ways of being that if i show them in relaity peopel dont understand! There arent many anime fans in my area and so i go online to meet them and through other sites as wel i learn more abotu myself and other people! When im in relaity i have to be more guarded about who i am because there is so much more pressure to be liek those around you! Hmm i dont know if that makes sense or not though lol i certainly dont hide my trueself here or through anime!

anime helps me forget about my life and this world which i don't like the way it is.it's like being in another world for some time.
i just don't like the real world and the truth.it's good way to escape from my own self and my thoughts.
the same reason i watch movies.

uhm, i dont really think of myself as "escaping from reality" by watching anime or going on CR. Internet is a source of entertainment for me and I enjoy watching anime online whenever I have time. Lmao, then I guess I'm loner since I let people add me on CR but I never talk to them.

Same here, unless they of course write something to me, which I'll reply to and nothing more

Ditto, you got me.

A facade can be constructed for a variety of reasons, but the heart of it is insecurity. If you put yourself out there 100% and get rejected and shunned, it hurts the self image on a deep level. If you lie and masquerade, you don't have to worry about getting hurt, but the real life you have shielded and hidden won't grow and be fed by anything you gain. Being genuine is risky, but it can be the most rewarding.

I have personally found that "giving someone what they want" typically involves massive generalizations, and generalizations kill kittens. Individuals rarely want anything consistently, and if you conform yourself to a stereotype, you are removing your uniqueness, which is a one way ticket to becoming an entirely forgettable person.

As for the anime/reality question, some anime is very much aware of how fake it is (excel saga) whereas Kiki, from Kiki's delivery service may just be nothing more than a series of drawings out of an old man's head, yet the realism of her emotions can make her all the more real.

For me i have been betrayed a lot of time by people I think there are my friend.
Why we protect ourselves? I think to protect ourselves from others to prevent being hurt by someone who finally isn't a friend.
Some people aren't self-confident, so they don't show there true personnality.

i'm always my true self and I never changed into another person...

i don't watch anime. i watch dramas, but just for the entertainment that it brings :)

anyways, i don't see why people would hide their real personality. especially this is just the net after all so does it really matter what people think of you? i for one couldn't care less about what people think of me in real life, let alone the net. maybe its just me, i'm generally a happy and optimistic person

But isn't it sounds more weird if you are lurking or hiding behind the computer just to make people appreciate you. Anime is a man made fantasy to make people enjoy themselves and not to lurk in it just to look cool. There's a bigger world which has a bigger challenge if you'll just keep running away throughout your life you'll just make yourself more undesirable.

i'm a lot more true to myself on CR than in real life. they just don't want others to judge them and see them as bad.
