Episode 1

Ah, yes, another show that shares several similarities with Gosick, except this time around,

I'm really liking the anime so far as it's intriguing and very nice to look at. Nothing for me to dislike so far and I really like Dalian so far. I think we're in for a good ride with this show. And gah, I'm losing intelligence, my impressions of the first episode is written poorly.

Seemed a little like a cross between Gosick and Pandora Hearts.

First episode did a good job setting the stage, I think. Just hope Dalian isn't as annoying as Victorique.

The set-up seems pretty cool. I haven't read the light novel or the manga, so if they keep the mystery of the books going all the way through the series then it could be really good. Watched it on Niconico and Gainax's animation looked decent, hopefully when it gets here on CR it will look a bit better. Plus, I thought the music matched the setting perfectly. It seems to be getting a lot of comparisons to Gosick, but it's only one episode, so that could be pretty wide off the mark when all is said and done.

I see the similarity between Dalian and Victorique and the setting of the two animes but I think this will move in a different direction than Gosick The first episode was great for the most part although it really slowed down at the part with the dragon. I'm pretty sure this will end up being a pretty good series but I really hope they don't have any more scenes like with the dragon where everything just seems to stand still while they read a story to destroy a monster.

I'm glad I kept my expectations low for this one as the first episode was very mediocre... I have a rather strong dislike for Daisuke Ono's voice in this type of role, so that didn't help.

Probably best to bear in mind that this is just a novel adaptation, the things that the name GAINAX are most commonly known for are original works fueled by wizards and nutters. This however has fairly rookie staff working on it (director's first) and the GAINAX veteran staff are working on Idolm@ster (no really, they are).

That said, it was rather enjoyable. If anyone were to list Daisuke Ono and Miyuki Sawashiro as the main characters for any project ever, then chances are I would at least give it a go. So I did, and I enjoyed it, the backdrop the music and the characters. While people compare it to GOSICK, i'm drawn more towards... Index, namely with the british loli in charge of a motherloade of books who seems to want to eat alot, cept' miyuki manages to pull it off without being irritating.

It's going to need more explaining and I say this alot, but compared to the other ambiguous shows this season (seriously, what the F is kamisama dolls about?) I enjoyed it alot more. Has a fairly strong lead male, which is always a plus(also First World War pilot - who survived, not many did). Having the balls to stand up to a dragon is a thumbs up in my book.
Looked well animated as well, but we can wait and see and hope they didn't splurge it all on the first episode.

So to sum it up. like the cast, the backdrop and hope to get a grasp of the story next episode.

(.... Still find it painfully ironic that this takes place in England, yet the UK can't view it on crunchyroll...)

I liked it and i defiantly think that it is one of the best anime this season and I look forward to it. But I won't call it amazing for at least a couple more episodes because there are many many anime that start of cool like this with fighting and magic but then become just slice of life romances between the 2 main characters with the magic barely ever used again.

My interest in this has kind of dwindled down after the first couple of episodes. The story thus far hasn't been too engaging and it hasn't made good use of its setting really. Dalian is a bit too much like Victorique from Gosick and Huey's character has only gotten weaker since the first episode. Episode 4 was a major letdown as not only was the story behind it borrowed from a movie (intentional or not) but it felt like the main characters were just kind of pointless in it. I'm gonna keep watching in hopes that it picks up in the next episode or two but am not expecting too much from it anymore.

the animation and the music is one of the bests in this season so far, the action scenes are quite good.
the story.....perhaps it got this feeling where these plots are useless, but actually how they bring the story forth is quite good.
im just hoping for some more development for the girl in the gourd, and what makes me sick so far is that Dalian is a bit......too much being not the serious-type since the first episode, and a bit arrogant when she deflates herself for 'looking up at Hugh'.

edit:
agree with post below. new characters in ep. 6 are more interesting.
but the silly thing is just that Hal's staff and at the moment he uses it, it's TOTALLY similar to that of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. i laughed.

I've really liked this series. This one, Kaiji, Mawaru Penguindrum and Tiger and Bunny are the only ones I've really found myself following religiously. The two new characters in ep. 6 were at least 10 times more interesting than the main characters. I'm not saying that Dalian & Huey won't become more fascinating later on, but Flamberge is already one of my favorite characters of the year, and has great chemistry with Hal.

I wouldn't say Hal and Flamberge have great chemistry but they certainly are far more interesting than Huey and Dalian which is kind of bad considering they're the main characters and have been in 5 times as many episodes. A glimpse of what I think to be the main antagonists were shown in episode 6 and it seems they're just another pair like Huey/Dalian and Hal/Flamberge. I almost busted out laughing cause I thought Hal was going to do Nanoha's divine buster near the end of the episode.

I don't know what happened but that was some weird shit with the White Yomihime.

On another note:

MY PROGRESS IN SEARCHING FOR A YOMIHIME WHILE VOLUNTEERING

No success yet.

Hal and Flam are some interesting characters but I'm still far more interested in that pink Yomihime.
