At this stage in my life, it's perception rather than deception. Both parents long since deceased (pater 1950, mater 1998).

I love them both equally, but I'd say I'm closer to my mum because it was just her and me for the first 8 or 9 years of my life. My birthfather left before I was born and my stepdad didn't meet Mum until like '01 or '02.

Me mum. My dad and sister have a lot more in common with each other. No question, I respect my dad, and I do love him. But my mom knows where I'm coming from, can relate her experiences to mine, and just understands me a whole lot more.

I believe that love isn't something that has a measure, it's like an on or off switch, either you love someone or you don't. If you love both your parents, you can't love one more than the other... now you can not love one parent and love the other.
Now, liking someone does have a measure, you can like someone more than the other, and I think most people confuse like with love.
That's what I believe anyway and I'm fine with people who disagree.
