Hello,

I believe that Crunchyroll should include ratings for the Anime that is listed on the site. Access to certain anime should be restricted based on the ratings and the users age. There should also be access controls for those who wish to filter what they, or the user account that they pay for, have visibility to.

I realize that it will be impossible to do this for unregistered users, but it is certainly feasible for registered ones. I do not feel that the current "Do/Do not show Mature content" flag is adequate.

Thoughts?

There is probably more CR could do as far as content warnings go, perhaps something similar to what is listed on ANN: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=12895

There are comments, reviews and forums attached to all the shows, so it isn't like Crunchyroll isn't giving users the tools to warn others about objectionable content.

many video sites block content based on the age on the profile but there is no actual way to verify that. When I was a kid I didn't care about putting 18 when I really was not. Perhaps they could verify it using a credit card or debit card but not everyone has that. Probably the best way would be to use a drivers license # or a non-drivers ID. Not sure if all countries have non-drivers IDs though and crunchyroll would have to have access to that information system. Also a kid is likely to use a parents card so...

However a mature content filter should be active to block adult content. Hulu has one...hate realizing I have to log in to view an R rated show but it makes sense to have it.

Having something like eyeofpain said "Objectionable content: Significant (bloody violence and/or swearing and/or nudity) " is not a bad idea but not really helpful. A kid is not going to care, a lot of times they will try and be rebellious and look for that stuff.

Thanks for contributing. One of the ideas that came from the other thread is to offer streaming uncensored content to those who are age verified. I don't know how feasible it would be to do this as the shows are probably being broadcast on japan TV censored. I think it would be a plus for many users though.

Age Ratings and Parental Controls is something we would like to provide in the future.

But there is a mature content filter, so it's curious why R-15 isn't being blocked there. Was that an intentional decision, or just something that slipped under the radar.

I did watch the first episode yesterday, and while there was nothing explicit, it seems like an odd choice to filter Mitsudomoe and not R-15.

The R-15 issue can be discussed here:

I have no clue what the show is about and whether or not it should be listed as Mature.

Yeah, saw your post in the other thread. Personally, I'm not sure what wouldn't be appropriate for 13-18 year-olds, just curious about the rationale behind what's marked as "mature," but that topic might be better suited to it's own thread.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Japan have a rating system for every show like the US does? I realize it would be tremendously difficult to try to translate that into each countries own rankings, but posting the ratings for each show according to Japan would be one step closer I would think.
