What would happen if you put together a sperm and egg cell of two different things? (animal + plant/ fungi + fish/ etc.)

true... but I was talking more about crossing kingdoms... ¬_¬

I know about ligers and mules and all that mess ⌐_⌐;;

I'm pretty certain that pokemonesque animals or plants or whatever won't actually exist...
and yes, you can breed different species, but if I remember correctly, you need to have the same amount of chromosomes in order to ensure the possibility that offspring occur.

*tee hee interspecies erotica X3*

yeah I already called him out on that.......................darn it now that makes me think of what a pervy friend of mine told my about squid in anime

so like.. if the genetics are too diffrent.. than you won't be able to produce an offspring rite?? ok i just thought up of something cool.

Say you want to create a man-lion or something.. then, you mix genetics from species that isn't too diffrent so they would produce an offspring. like.. say ape first.. then the offspring will be mixed with a species that is closer in evolution line of lion, like, a gorrilla or whatever.. then the offpsring will be mixed again with species that's closer.. and the process goes on.. until we get a chromosomes that is close to lion, then finally mix it for final result!

I guess... it's possible... ¬_¬;;
assuming the offspring won't be sterile...

but I dunno... I'm not sure if the chromosome count actually changes if you mix breeds...

well you see there are some combinations that are always sterile, others that are not, and some that are sometimes fertile. It all is about the way the different genes interact

not sure about the chromosomes either

yes that is true.. the sterility will be a huge problem. I hope man x wolf won't be sterile >_< imagine how cool it is to have real werewolf in this world

also like.. assuming science decipher the infomations on genetic codes.. will that mean they will be able to artificially make an organism based on whatever they fancy?

for example.. they decode the genetic that make fishes's gills. Then they store that data in a computer. Decode human's genetic in the neck area, modify and add gill's in the neck area.. then we got ourself a human that can breathe underwater! O_o

Nothing would happen for people have something like 23 chromosomes and if the other organism doesn't match that nothing will happen. as for plants .... they are only sexual in the sense they get pollinated by bee's who carry other plants information (genes) to others.

they did make a glowing tobacco plant.... they put a firefly gene that made it glow into the tobacco plant and now the tobacco plant glows...... would that count... its kinda like the egg stuff

Thats just gene manipulation... For them to actually mate is out of the question.

yeah but where would the genes that control changes in behavior to lunar activity come from?

Ummm... It wouldn't even take to the egg... If the DNA isn't similar it won't do anything...
