I am the first to admit I like anime. Sure I am over the age of 25, but I have my own house, car and good paying job. I am not the stereotyped comic book guy that is 100 lbs over weight, a proud stay at home son and who gets upset if his online GF dumps him.

So why is it such a problem to people ? I am having trouble finding a steady guy, because they do not like the anime thing. I mean it's okay for them to like UFC or even I Carly (yes a grown 26 year old man Tivo's I Carly but I am weird for liking Anime O_o)

I feel like Anime is hindering my dating life. Does anyone else have this problem ?

I am getting ostracized by family, because I wanted a tattoo of Kenshin's Sagara Sanosuke on my back. I have wanted it ever since I was 14 years old. Is that so bad ?

Am I doomed to be a cat lady because I watch the big 3 religiously every week ?

Heck, I feel I will have to will One Piece down to my great great grandkids to complete.. because it will never be finished.

Please give me your take.

P.S. I just hung up on the Icarly guy because he was like... I spent an hour listen to you blab about anime crap.. I dont talk about Icarly like this.. Yea I admit I love Icarly and I watch cartoons every day.. but I refuse to watch something as boring as anime.

P.S.S. Anime boring..? Ignorance is bliss huh ?

to be honest I would love to date some one like you and this is a personal thread but no it's not weird you just need to find people, ask around, go online like you are and see if you can find people that have the same hobby that you do. If a person can not love you FOR WHO YOU ARE, then guess what?? They don't love you in the first place.

Don't let people judge you. People will always have misconceptions about things. The best advice I could offer for you is either being a closet anime fan or find someone else who shares similar interests. If people criticize you for being yourself, ignore them, you don't need to be judged by others, you should only judge yourself.

Depends how you act in REAL LIFE after watching anime! To me you sound like a normal person who just loves anime. There's no problem with that, so screw others for judging you!

I just ignore them to be honest. They don't like anime, that's their opinion. I haven't had a problem with dating. Maybe because I hide the fact that I watch anime. I dunno. A lot of people are somewhat 'against' or 'hating on' anime so I thought it was best not to tell anyone about my anime hobbies. Fortunately because of that I haven't come across ignorant people.

If they can't accept you for who you are, then leave them. Don't change. Anime is a great thing those haters are missing out on. <3

22, and I can honestly say I don't see myself giving up anime any time soon. There's nothing wrong with it at all.

Think about it this way. Like everyone else was saying. Don't let others judge you. If they are judging you negatively for something you are passionate about, are these the kind of people you really want to be with/around anyway? I'd say 90% of my friends watch anime and/or read manga. I didn't choose them because of that. It just happened that way.

So no, anime is not bad. It's just some people don't like what we like. And it happens. You will definitely find someone out there with the same love for anime if not, someone that is totally okay with your love of anime. If someone is going to like you. They're going to like you for who you are. Not the things you like.

no. its like watching cartoons in a different language. i don't get why people think its weird. Its a great pass time.
either way in one point of everyones lives they've watched anime and liked it. If not, than what did they grow up on? hello Dragon ball, card captor, yugioh, and don't tell me they haven't heard of naruto or bleach =,= xD

look at this way, you can argue that anime is an art form and a cultural gateway, you are therefore simply broadening your horizon.

Thank you all for your kind words..

I have started to become a closet otaku... but when someone asks about a anime I have seen.. the otaku comes out and I scare them away.

Honestly, after being looked down on as a freak.. I cry it out in a bathtub ... I am like scared to even mention it or even video gaming. Guys here, think I am a freak of nature because I rather watch a marathon of old Jackie Chan movies then go to a club. Or go to a Dali exhibit then a walk on the beach. I have been told they do not know what to make of me.. so I get pushed to the "Friend" category. *sigh* I just don't want to be a cat lady.. It would be nice to wake up to someone who doesn't care that I sleep with 2 teddy bears. Or that I eat cereal in my pajamas while watching Gem and the Holograms(Its back on yeeaahh!! Sailor Moon is coming back too) like I did when I was 8. Or that when I get upset I ignore the world and play final fantasy for days until I am not mad anymore. Or that I like to make bento lunches in the shape of pokemon or Hello Kitty because its adorable. Its just me... why change someone I understand ?

No. For the same reason it's not bad to be a gamer. Most people under 40 years old these days were born in the age of arcade's, video games, and the modernization of anime.

Most people who think it's weird are the babyboomers who are still living in the 20th century, or kids who were gullible and absorbed their parents stance on it like a sponge. That and people who have not opened up to the technilogical medium and accept differing tastes. Culture is changing a lot, and we are still early on in embraces these changes.

I mean, even poltical ideologies are set in an archaic mid 20th century format. Time to move forward humanity.

Uh, no. I wouldn't call you an otaku at all, which is an even more rude word to me, unless I got the definition wrong, which is in my profile (I doubt I got it wrong, or maybe there's a difference of the meaning otaku when referring to Americans and Japanese).

You sleep with 2 teddy bears. I find that cute! You still eat cereal with your pajamas. That's cute too, and it's nice to refer back to your childhood at times. Big deal! You have bento lunches with Pokemon and Hello Kitty. Should that even matter to anyone (well I hate pokemon, but I wouldn't care that you like them)? You play Final Fantasy to calm you down. Even though I hate FF too (sorry), that's one of the main reasons that video games are created (in my opinion). I think that their so called clubs isn't worth checking out just because you got excluded for liking Japanese media. It's just wrong and immature.

I just take everyone's advice and ignore those people, as they are jerks. I hate it when people are so judgmental! If they keep judging you, I wouldn't accept them as even my friend (In my opinion).

Here's what my sister would say if she was in that situation (she does like anime too):

Guy: Hey, what's your name? (Wow, she's beautiful)
My sister: Katie
Guy: Cool, I'm Kevin. What's one of your hobbies?
Katie: Watching anime.
Kevin: Yeah, this isn't going to work out (freak), but we can still be friends. :)
Katie: Yeah...I don't even want to be friends with some jerk. *pulls out middle finger*

lol That's how she is. Anyways, good luck!

P.S: That guy that called you before needs to check if his brain is functioning right because, last I checked, anime is basically Japanese CARTOONS! He can stay single or a douche for all I care, and he'll find out that he has to change the way he acts towards women, sooner or later.

It's ok to like anime, but if you started to get too addicted to it, like you spend your whole summer watching anime, then I guess it is bad to like anime.

It's ok to like it, just don't like too much.

You're a geeks wet dream you just need to tell people who tease you for being you to eat a bag of roosters. Any guy who gets butthurt because a girl is a gamer or likes anime is probably dealing with some insecurities of his own or is incredibly pretentious. Most my friends aren't into anime but none of them care that I am, granted they all think I'm a geek and I am and that's ok with me and with them. It's who I am. Be who you are and don't look back, don't second guess yourself, and shed the losers who don't love you for who you are no matter what they offer. If you are confident and yourself you will score a great partner in time.

No there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking anime. People like what they like. We all have different preferences when it comes to what we do in our spare time. There are some of my friends know that I like anime and think its kinda weird, but they still accept me for who I am. And in turn I'm still cool with them when they talk about watching shitty MTV shows like Jersey Shore. As long as its not the only thing in your life there shouldn't be a problem.

If someone is going to judge you based on one aspect of who you are then your probably better off without them. You need to be true to yourself. Its also not like your the only person the world who likes anime as well. Everyone on this site does thats for sure. If your open and honest about it you may even find someone who likes it too.
