Metal, prog, and classical are pretty much the only things I listen to, actually. I can't stand core, though.

I'm glad to see some Devin Townsend fans here; Biomech is easily one of my all-time top 5 albums in any genre.

My favorite prog bands are pretty easily King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator, though I'm also rather fond of Änglagård, Gentle Giant, Discipline, and Devil Doll

Most of the metal I listen to these days is either Black, Death, or traditional Heavy Metal. Darkthrone, Ved Buens Ende, Burzum, The Chasm, Fates Warning, early At the Gates, Judas Priest, and Aeternus are some of my more notable favorites.

Old-school prog fan here - Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull, Rush, etc. I'm something of a Steve Hackett fanboy (that dude is incredible on the guitar...

Also enjoy Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, Kamelot, and on and on...

I love all kinds of music, old & new. I love perusing these threads to find bands I may have missed out on.

Eluveitie is FANTASTIC. Five Finger is good if you want something pretty simple and dumb. Good to play say a game too. Saturnus is one of my all time favorites. Admittedly, they are pretty soft, but I haven't hardened up enough to discount them. Epica, Nightwish, Therion, all good Symphonic metal bands. Especially Epica. My god, I love them. Swallow the Sun is another band that can't be forgotten.

A small sample, but I wanted to give a general idea of the swath I have cut when it comes to metal.

Yeah, my tastes are fairly mild, but whatever. It's still metal!
