Post Reply Attempt To Convert Me
Posted 1/16/08 , edited 4/18/08
We cannot make you believe in God and His Son. We can only tell you what we believe. It is your choice. I cannot do anything but teach you what prayers I know, what Theology I know, whatever hope I have or know. It's up to you to accept or reject God. I accept God and His Son. Do you?

I'm not going to convert anyone. No one can convert anyone if it's not by the call of God. Most times Christians TRY, they try their utmost best to have success in life, try this try that, and they don't realise letting go is the answer. Only you can convert yourself. Only you and God know what you were thinking when you created that question and posted that challenge up. Only you know whether any replies would be a futile attempt or not.

Like I said before, Christianity is but a relationship with God. There is nothing other besides that we feel His Love for us that makes us want to share the good news. We aren't nice in behaviour because it's a rule to be nice. In fact the more we try by our own efforts the more fruitless it will be. It's called the fruits of the spirit, you don't force plants to grow fruits.

A lot people think Christians are so because it means we don't go hell. This behaviour only shows the lack of knowledge and ignorance of what it really means to be a Christian. People who shout things like 'You'll go to hell if you don't believe' are just banking on a popular idea, using it as their banner of victory, while they themselves have no spiritual breakthrough. They think, by converting others or at least spreading religious doctrines, it means they'll be in a safer position to go heaven, when it's only that they are superstitious themselves. These are the ones who usually fall away after a while to join some other religious organization that promise the best for them in life.

I've emphasized time and time again, it's not the blessings we seek for. Our relationship with God is our primary focus. The blessings come because God wants to bless His people. It's an extension of his Mercy. That's his personality. He is God, his character is that of a Fatherly guy. He wants to take care, but He is righteous, and doesn't just do things because his kids tell him to. He knows what's best. For us. The more we ask for blessings thinking we can get it 'because we asked' is ridiculous and fall short of his grace, and nothing but twisting God's arm. His thoughts are not our thoughts.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

We don't call ourselves children of God BECAUSE it means it'll buy our place out of hell. Don't you get it? Most men don't even know what the hell Hell is, let alone how scary it is. All we have is but our own perceived imagination. Hell is not the first priority in man, in this contemporary society, even to a lot of Christians who hear the word 'Hell'. It excites them but they don't have an idea, so how can they possibly follow something so strongly because 'it'll buy them out of hell'?

Christians merely believe that Jesus has already bought us out of it. It's the gift of mercy from our Father. A gift, is nothing but a wrapped package offered. You cannot have his gift if you do not first reach out your hand to receive it. The gift is Jesus. God's best and most precious gift. It hurts Him to sacrifice Jesus, but He loves us more. Likewise, if you take the gift but don't use it, or cultivate it (because Jesus is a person) then you can't possibly complain you don't have it, because you do, just that you refuse to acknowledge it. Christians merely understand this love of God for us, and out of love for Him, we tell people about Him.

Likewise, I'm going to trust in my Father in Heaven. I won't try to convert anyone, it's not my job, or any Christian's job. My job is to look at Jesus and just rest in Jesus. It's my joy to share the good news though. Evangelism is nothing more than wanting to let people know about God. It's only natural when you love someone, you want that someone to know. There are many false preachers out there, who teach doctrines seemingly correct, but they are doing it for themselves, to 'be like God'. Outsiders who grasp hold of such fasle teachers often put two and two together into stereotyping Christians are all a certain category or type.

There is no type. There's only love.

Please read this website to know more about Christianity.

Magnus, this thread is nothing more than a furtive attempt to try and de-convert Christians. While you’re entirely welcome to this I would have to ask you to refrain from doing so while in this group. I’m in the atheist group and I don’t go around trying to convince people that God is real. Mind you I do try and soothe the prejudice there and point out that Christians, like secular individuals, are just people, but this group was made for a specific purpose and should be used for that purpose and not abused or manipulated by zealous guests.

You’re atheist group is a massive attack against Christians. We’ve taken it in stride, grinned and bared it. No one here has attacked you. We’ve welcome you kindly and cordially, with open arms. Please do not betray that. You think it is rare for Christians to be accepting, kind, and understanding? Well, we here are being all of those things. Why destroy it by making a thread you know will offend people?

When you fight fire with fire you only create more destruction. Shoot a flare into a furnace and you stir the coals. By coming into this group in an attempt to de-convert us you’re simply frustrating people and encouraging further discrimination against people like you.

You claim to want to do what is right. You hate religion because the prejudice it caused against your homosexual friend. Well, understand then, that your actions will only increase that discrimination. Your atheist group exacerbates things because the way it is presented. By betraying the creators and moderators of this group, who’ve kindly allowed you and me to join, you’re only going to cause more devastation. You’re behaving hypocritically, and I strongly urge you to meditate on all of this.

What I have to say that God will speak to nonchristians as long as they are truly looking for the truth and truly seeking for an intimate relationship with God. The point is that you have to be completely sincere and if you have any questions ask knowledgeable people or even read the Bible! I promise that it doesn't bite :w00t:.

YES a lot of Christians focus on the aspect of heaven or hell (which is very important) but one important thing that EVERYONE should know is that GOD LOVES YOU! No matter who you are or what sins you've committed Jesus died on the cross to cleanse you of all your faults. That's a good enough reason for me!

Think of this: God the wonderful creator and king of heaven and earth came down to this world and lived as a man that was beaten, spit at, tormented, and hung on cross just because of the immense love he had for you and me! That was the greatest sacrifice that anyone could pay. He took your place so that YOU could have a chance to live eternity with him.

If you kick a dog long enough, it will bite back. People are the same way. I caution you to stop your reckless rampage on Christions. Not to mention, it's only the catholics really who are really anti-gay christians. Everyone else doesn't care.

I'm not offended, actually, there is nothing to attack, if you think about it. It's not like saying anything will get you to change your ideas if you've already placed them before you. I'm saying this to Christians as well as non-believers. Don't see it as sides. We just share our joy and how we found ours. It's not an obligation for people to identify with our joys.

Why be offended? The posts above at the very most I would say echoes slight annoyance, but I doubt anyone is really offended. Should anyone feel really offended personally, then it's their ego that is offended. I say this not to reprimand or point fingers of judgement. It is not my job to do so, only the Lord does. I would rather reproof and bring somebody right with God, than to see someone walk in the flesh. God is love, so I do not worry, for Love quenches anger. The most I can feel right now, is peace.

Christianity is not so much about identifying common people, THEN doctrine in mind. It's just God.

With God in mind, you WANT to find his other people. Personally, it doesn't make much of a difference to me whether my sharing creates an effect on people to specifically convert them. I DON'T CARE. In my flesh self, I really don't care! But because I love Jesus, and He's shown me great love that I share my joys with other people. I don't go around with such expectations to convert. It's a burden to bear. I don't bear burdens, I leave them to God. Once I've shared, I usually don't do anything more than to see God work his miracles. Most of the time, forcing ideas on people won't even work.

Jesus mentioned that those who deny themselves, take up his cross and follow him will be his children.

As long as you don't see yourself giving up everything you possess, own, even your flesh and its desires, you are not taking the step of faith. Faith in God is not just putting him at the back of your mind, as backup, whippin it out like an ace card in times of trouble lol. There is no backup. If you give yourself to Him, surrender, knowing for a fact that you cannot save yourself by what you do, you are denying yourself. You'll take his yoke, and his yoke is easy, and his burden is light.

Matthew 11:30
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

(Hitoli's your member lol, shouldn't you remember her name at least? ^__^)

(Actually, gay and homosexuals are not just regarded by Catholics as wrong. But they make a big deal about it. It is not right, but which of us sinners can condemn anyone when we take a look at our lives. All man are sinners. This is not to say some people are more of a sinner than another. Those people regard themselves as having little to save. They reject God's grace. They think themselves as self-righteous. I'm sorry, but it's precisely those people are the ones that God would despise more, compared to the most despicable sinner who knows his own sin and asks for forgiveness. No difference from a pharisee who has an outward form of holiness, but no heart of forgiveness for others.)

I apologize if it seemed that way to you. I assure you that this thread was made out of curiosity more than any other reason. I did not wish to offend anyone and had no intention of attacking or even commenting on responses. The only posts I planned to make were clarifications such as my answer to Skygod and this post. Look at how I responded in the Hitomi amputee thread. I had no desire to offend and the mods are welcome to delete this with my sincere apology.

Well, if that's the truth then I appologize. Well see how you react in the future.

I can't tell you that the religion I am involved in is the right one. I dont know.
But I can tell you the power I have seen as evidence of why I think my religion is the right one.

When I was 14 i went on a christian youth retreat. During a time or "worship"(praise singing) a girl behind me started to freak out and to cry and scream. This isn't something that happens almost EVER in any worship setting. This girl was most definetly possessed by evil because it reacted negatively to singing praise to my creator (whome I believe to be only good). A few people walked over to her and started to pray over her. This girl started to writhe and to scream louder and got even more aggressive. It took a good hour before the demon left the girl and I can tell you that those tears of fear and anger changed to relief. She was suddenly free from evil and it must have felt amazing. You dont have to believe this. but I saw it. it happened. and I believe it.

Then there's people who will ask "if God is good why is there so much bad in the world?"
my only answer to that is because it's not God but us that's doing it. Humans are inherently evil. No matter how "good" we try to be we will still do things that we know are wrong. It's why there's murder, drug use, war, racism, liers. People can't be perfect. It's said in the secular world "Nobody's perfect" and no matter how much we strive for perfection we will still end up doing things that we know are wrong or untrue. So God doesn't want evil in this world I think. He wants good, but I think that we, as humans, dont learn unless we make mistakes. unless there are reactions to our actions. We need to learn and that's why I think there is evil and cruelty in this world

You know, most people (oh shit, i just spied that there are 300 mod reports. crap gotta spend some time there...) are afraid of believing in the wrong things. The best that we can convince ourselves, is our personal experiences and evidences in our own lives that confirm our initial shaky beliefs.

Riverstyx above has mentioned his, I have my own, and I'm certain others have their own at some point of their life. It's very difficult to believe when you don't see anything to confirm these ideas you learn, but once you take the step to believe first, the blessings that manifest after will make you at ease and comfort into knowing for sure, you're right with God.

Magnus, I'll try to keep a level head. But after seeing most of your responses on Christian threads, and your pleasant little "Who Hates God?" thread, it's going to be hard. If you can't believe God of your own will, however, no amount of us preaching is going to change your mind, like skygod said.

However, let me clarify some things.

After visiting the friendly 'Allied Atheists' group you put on your favorites, with it's cute little headline, I'll try to answer some of their Questions.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Evil came only from the absence of God, not because he was unwilling or unable. You see, unlike some religions, God doesn't demand perfection from his followers, and he doesn't wish to force himself unto people who have turned. Thats Satan who forces himself upon people, especially believers. Even followers can make mistakes, shown quite prominently throughout history (....another argument, for another time). This is because of 'Free Will', the idea that God constantly tests us through life, and the only way to do so properly, is to give humans the power to decide.

Wait!?...Did I say humans get power?

Yes. This might be my personal belief, but I believe that God gives a certain amount of power for ourselves. A common misconception that runs rampant through atheist society. In fact, God seems to be the easiest god to believe, and Christianity the easiest religion to follow. In all honesty, what do you have to do? Spend less than five minutes praying for Jesus to enter unto your heart. Then maintain a relationship. Seems more than easy enough to me.

...You can ask more questions, and I'll try my best to answer. But that's all I'm going to say in relation to trying to save you, since you don't seem to wish to be saved.

^ It isn't always the case of easiest means it's the most appealing. Some people strive to work hard for their own salvation, as seen in forms of buddhism, hinduism, religious sects and cults, anti-christ groups, even atheists, as singular individual minded people - once they've denied the existence of God, it would mean none other than working for their own benefits in life.

Some people like working for it, because they can see what they've accomplished. They made have accomplished great things in this world, but it's temporal. Just a look at the sky that god has created by speaking, their works seem tiny and insignificant. Nevertheless, God won't force help on people who refuse it., not because he doesn't want to, but because he respects our free will, that he has also given to us.
