Moral of the story: don't mix 'incest' with a story with mostly parental nurturing morals.
In the first part, which is the one portrayed in the anime, Rin never really admitted daikichi as her father, saying he was simply ' daikichi'. But if there would be 'incest' later on, daikichi's development as a parent feels kind of off.

Having only watched the anime, I skipped directly to the end of the manga upon hearing about the content. If the story had previously been an daughter-bait trash show/manga I would be fine with the ending, except the fact that it was a genuinely heartwarming and charming story about parenthood, which had to be ruined by a trashy plot twist. It almost feels like another person wrote the ending, and I am going to pretend it never existed.

Yeah it is definitely one of the worst endings I have ever heard of, and that is why I will never read the manga. I absolutely love the anime, and I am not willing to let it's image be ruined in my mind. I have no idea why the mangaka would write the ending the way he did, but there are any number of reasons that could have led him to the decision. I haven't really done any research, but I absolutely do not believe that he had it in mind from the start.

I don't even mind adopted father/ adopted daughter romances, it just wasn't foreshadowed at all in the first half to the point of giving Rin and Daikichi their own romantic interests. One time skip later, those ships sunk for reasons, and the author begins the process of slamming the two protagonists together. It doesn't even seem romantic on Daikichi's side since he just casually goes along with it.
