Naruto has been dead in my eyes for years, Shippuden should have just been called Sasuke. The Bleach manga may still be good, but the anime is complete crap due to so many filler seasons. Of the original 3, One Piece is the only one that's consistently entertaining.

That being said, I think Fairy Tail will get there eventually, it will just take a while. The manga has done well in sales, but the anime is lacking the attention and huge cult following required to be a mega hit. (seriously, where is all the erza fan art at?)

Blue Exorcist got ported and advertised well, I would argue that it's actually bigger than FT at the moment (at least in the US), but we'll see how that turns out. I'm not sure they have enough content to make it run more than a year.

The Beelzebub anime is taking a different shape than the manga, at least for now. It's much lighter and happier, they're not really making it into a shounen that can compete with the others, but I would love to see it reach that point.

Before either of those 3 hit it big I would imagine Gintama would take over, it's been around for a long time and has quite a large following. I haven't watched much of it yet, but I've been told I need to.

Some people mentioned Toriko, which seems odd to be in the top 3 to me. I enjoy watching it, but it doesn't give off the feel of something that will run for 5+ years.

As much as I love Fairy Tail...it really isn't at its peak anymore. The whole Edolas Arc is kind of boring me.

And Ao No Exorcist despite being awesome was at it's peak 2 episodes in...but who could live up to those awesome first two?

Out of all the new anime from 2005-2011, toriko is obviously on the top right now both in manga and anime sales in japan, not sure about outside japan though. Fairy tail though is also up there but as you guys said, the anime lacks exposure. So far the big 3 anime up to date is :OP, Naruto & toriko. Sorry bleach really fell hard this year, the anime is not even on the top 15 weekly shonen jump rankings.

P.S. I think toriko will last a decade. Just looking at the story line of it, it's very very similar to OP especially the unlock world, gourment world which is really big compared to human world and the craziness of the characters is similar to OP too.

Just had another thought. With the remake coming this fall, Hunter x Hunter could possibly reclaim it's place in the big 3 if the mangaka can manage to not go on hiatus again for a while.

Its owned by Shounen Jump, the manga is insanely successful (anime is successful too, just not at the same extent last I check, but correct me if I'm wrong though), since its debut from 2009 there have been multiple times it's image were as big as One Piece/Naruto for the front cover of WSJ magazine overshadowing Bleach, and there are TONS of materials to milk.

Remember popularity outside of Japan does not count.

I'm ready for this.
But wait, was it as big as the current Big 3 when it was at its peak?
