While fans obviously know a lot of the the main couples (this can happen of many anime will have a lot of hints of romance, it's also obvious they likely they won't ever actually kiss/get married onscreen (while they might start dating, to me, it's much more romantic to see an actual kiss/proposal)

. With this and the fact that the shipping of the main couple can be a major factor for the popularity of some series taken into account, what's the point of the writers having all this hinting if the romance is never realized?

One thing that I like about the 4kids version of Yu-Gi-Oh 5DS over the Japanese is that while Aki and Yusei have evidence in the Japanese version, the 4kids version puts in more hints/dialogue.

(Look at the thread http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Xamd_Lost_Memories#s=/library/Xamd_Lost_Memories/forum%3Fextra_param%3D437225%26page%3D0 for somewhat related posts)

I never understood this either. I think it's just to milk the series for all it's worth.

Just like how you're milking Barnaby in your avi. Btw, where mah torrent advice.

The point of the shit is to make fans giggly and all that mushy feelings. Happens in many anime but there are also many anime who have these lovey dovey things demonstrated and even pushed further.

Barnaby is obviously buttflossing, and you can't make your torrenting any faster. You just have to make your internets faster.

And, on topic, you took the words out of my mouth. It's all just to give the fans fangasms. Hell, most of the time, these romances make no contribution to the plot; I think that may or may not be the reason they don't usually end with things like romance.

Also, there's fanfiction for all that lovey dovey crap. Then there's hentai which has plenty of ROMANCE, yea, I watch them for DA ROMANCE. So... no need to put kisses, marriage, and other mushy feelings in mah anime when fanfiction and hentai are available.

For clarification, I am referring to the main couples that are straight pairings. I've expressed how GL/BL is something I detest. Please stick to hetero couples only.

I find it strange that most topics if not all, you start have a title that is more a statement than a question and rather vague to what it's about. anyways to the point, I've never understood shipping, homo or hetero.

In my opinion, 'less is more". If characters were to suddenly confess love in all those action shounen series, it might come across as "awkward" or "out of character" for them.

I'm good with just hinting at it.

But I have to admit that........

MAJOR SPOILER FOR FMA BROTHERHOOD

If anyone is familiar with Soul Eater than you know of the constant daaaaaw moments between Maka and Soul in both the manga and anime, which fangirls then proceed to ship the hell out of. Frankly, I'd rather not have romance in my shonen, but the constant "hinting" throughout the story doesn't help.

As someone has said above, it's just a way to make fans giggly, yet sometimes people take the slightest character interaction and turn it into something it's not.

Yeah, as said above, it's just to milk the characters for what it's worth.

It also creates a hell lot of fanfiction, doujins, etc, when it gets out of hand. But this isn't a bad thing, because it spreads word of the series, which means more people buy/watch the series.

I don't exactly like Romance in anything other then if it has romance as a main point, but...

It creates relationships between characters. It's not like you would have a adolescent boy with a girl, and they just completely ignore each other or are "just friends". If done correctly, it does make the characters more realistic.

But yes, I do think that most of the "evidence" is worthless, and it's just to stir up popularity and interest in the series, i.e. some people love making random stories about relationships between characters, or some people watch it just to see the "romance".

"Hinting"?

I'm sorry but they f*cking LIVE TOGETHER and act like they're married!!

I think that's a little more than just "hinting".

lol.

I try to look at things this way: If the couple being shipped was hypothetically the same sex, would the characters be extremely gay?

If no, then there probably isn't anything going on.

If yes, you might as well call it canon. The author himself probably considers MakaxSoul canon. He doesn't have to make it a global announcement because it's already incredibly obvious.....unless the viewer is a complete idiot when it comes to recognizing love.
For example:
If a guy and girl are "just friends", the girl is most certainly not going to smack the guy when she finds him in bed with another woman.
Maka is constantly hitting Soul or throwing a fit when she sees Blair or any other woman molesting him. Soul in turn, never encourages Blair to keep doing what she's doing-he asks her to stop. He gets nosebleeds because he's attracted to her and could easily have her as his partner but he stays loyal to Maka.
That should make you draw to the conclusion: Maka and Soul are not "just friends".

Besides, why should it matter to YOU if you "don't want romance in your shounen"? It's not like it ever plays a big enough role to affect the story. I would just quite complaining about it.

But yes, I do think that most of the "evidence" is worthless

If such a thing can make people happy, even for a second, it is not worthless. We're talking about "entertainment" here.

There's no need to throw a fit, it was just an opinion, neither was I complaining. Also, if you happened to notice the word "hinting" was in quotations. Note the sarcasm.

Soul Eater fans I swear....

I wasn't throwing a fit.

Sorry but sarcasm REALLY doesn't work too well on the internet. Everyone always assumes it does.

You swear what? Is there a problem with us you would like to discuss?

Is that so? Judging by the bold characters, all caps, multiple exclamation points, and the random f bomb in the beginning of your post is what had me come to that conclusion. Excuse me for misjudging. Sometimes quotations are used to emphasize sarcasm. As far as I know, that's basic grammar and I assumed it would be obvious, apparently not. No, there is no problem, nor is there anything to discuss. I stated an opinion and you disagreed with it. Nothing more to be said since I rather not drag on this discussion.
