Impact of vampire books and movies [Warning: Real News]
Posted 8/18/11
The arrest of a man accused of breaking into a woman's house
and trying to suck her blood has sparked discussion about the impact
of vampire books and movies on youth culture.

Whether pop culture played a role in Saturday's attack remains to be seen,
as 19-year-old Lyle Monroe Bensley awaits a psychiatric evaluation in jail
on burglary charges in Galveston, Texas.

Galveston police say the man forced his way into the apartment of a woman he did not know and made growling and hissing noises while biting and hitting the victim in her bed.
Found in a parking lot and wearing only boxer shorts, the pierced and tattooed Bensley
claimed he was a 500-year-old vampire who needed to "feed,"

"young people might aspire to be like vampires because they cheat death and are able to stay beautiful, powerful and youthful for eternity."

Two years later, a San Francisco man claiming to be a 2,000-year-old vampire was arrested for slashing the necks of four homeless people, one fatally. A serial killer arrested in England in 1949 allegedly drank a cup of blood from each of his six victims.

"I think the vampire is a metaphor for the outsider and the predator in all of us."

Here is the so-called Vampire:

Okay now, this is when stuff gets out of hand as I am researching up on this topic...

Here is a blog that a man made about his "becoming" of a vampire,
Here is part of it:

"At 23 I knew I was a vampire, I was able to do everything that anyone who referred to themselves as a real vampire could do. I had all of the traits. I was able to say yes to all but 2 of the traits on my website that they had, that included the ones that I could tell by feel were vampires. Those of you who know what I mean by that "feel" know exactly what I'm talking about. For those of you that don't, I really try to help the best I can with this page. It was great, I was completely developed, I was doing really cool stuff, I was even doing some stuff that people still try to tell me is myth like biting for blood painlessly. Easy to teach takes a little practice to get good at, sort of like chess."

haha So, what do you think of all this?
Do you think people are going crazy out of their minds?
Do you think that people can be vampires?
Or is it all just a disease
I know for sure the first one is.
I think people these days are getting out of hand with all the mythology.

So, what do you think of all this?
I need to buy some pot from these people

Do you think people are going crazy out of their minds?
Not surprised.... There are a bunch of dumb fucks around the world

Do you think that people can be vampires?
Not really... You can have all the traits of a vampire such as hematophagy, maybe the teeth thing, and live like a vampire.... BUT immortality and transforming into a bat is not going to happen

Crazy shit, man.

Anyone that would attempt to reenact something they've read out of a book or have seen on TV are weak minded and not too bright to begin with. These people are mentally insane, period.

Somehow I'm not surprised about this considering there are cases of
people believing that they are something else in reference on fictional stories, movies on vampires or otherwise.

I live within fifteen miles of the guy from Galveston. 500 years old my ass, pulling some arbitrary number out of the air like that. Most people who go out for a "midnight snack" would have at least had a little dignity and put on some clothes before he goes out on his little psychotic break.

I think accusing vampire media is the wrong reaction. Beyond vampire fiction, there are plenty of insane people that would behave this way using any other fantasies as leverage. Plus plenty of murderers throughout history have drank their victims' blood without the influence of fiction.

I don't mind leaving room to speculate seemingly unnatural, but even if treating the existence of a vampire as real, it would be most logical for an "immortal" being to keep hidden, lest they be pestered for eternity by many generations for their secrets to immortality. So even in trying to give the benefit of the doubt, that guy is nowhere near being within the boundaries of logic.

Vampire fiction in general doesn't make much sense when applied to reality. You'd either have to have absolutely 1 vampire, or an infinitely increasing number of them, neither of which make sense relative to discovery.

If you were 500 years old, even if you wanted to fit in with todays society, would you REALLY dress like that? Gauges and all? Obviously not.
