Are people predisposed one way or the other? Is loyalty in the genes or is it based on the expectation personal or material benefit?

I have no idea, but I know I'm a loyal person.

loyalty is like trust it's earned over time by peoples actions. certain people are loyal to certain political figures/leaders because of there ideals/beliefs, where the stand and how the lead, Trust and loyalist is gained that way. It also works for people that write reviews or makes shows, once you build up enough trust there then you gain loyal fans that will follow certain studios such as j.c.staff or writers such Jrr Tolkien with the creators of higurashi and umineko... hmm that's a way to sum it up i suppose

I agree with cecil. Loyalty is earned, you don't give someone your loyalty for nothing. You expect something back. Usually loyalty of whatever kind is returned with some kind of loyalty.
I don't know if it's in the genes but people have a natural desire not to be alone, which requires the cultivation of relationships. And people prefere relationships that are beneficial to them in some way and are meaningful, which makes loyalty of some kind preferred.

I haven't fully understood loyalty so i would say that i respect those whose believes is made to everyones goodness. muhammad ali, gandhi, malcolm x, martin luther-king, jesus, buddha, bruce lee and the list goes on and on. Those are the real rolemodels. I feel really bad for young people who takes their rolemodels from people like rihanna, lady gaga, madonna and actors PEOPLE WHO ACT, seriously ..... why the fuck people are so dumb to idolize an actor.... those guys are dillusionals those guys think what they do is real. and the worst thing is that people follow them like mindless zombies and they can't see the people that truly are not fake people who are not actors or tits showing singers, these people actually are the holy people MEDIA just won't recognize it since they would lose so much money and the meaning behind media.

FOR THE LAST TIME mates wake up. YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT. you are the one who split the blood not the ACTORS.

Thanks and god bless.

Why do you have to make things so complicated? I think people naturally betray others if they're the one who will reap the benefits.
It happens so easily in today's world

Most people have loyalty to something, whether that's to an employer, or their family, or their friends, I don't know. What I do know is, that when large amounts of money or fame become involved, loyalty goes out the window. There was this dude that the Australian media loves to pick on; who talked a lot about how loyal he was to his rugby team. Shortly afterward, he got offered a crapload of money to play for some French team, so he left. People are loyal to the $ (or whatever currency they have in their country).

It's goes hand in hand like respect.

Let me get my calculator out.

Judging by my calculations, Loyalty is earned.

I think some people here confuse trust with loyalty. While trust must definitely be earned, loyalty is easily corruptible. Look at politicians, none of them are trusted but people become fiercely loyal to them. I think our culture devalues loyalty. Self-preservation is the first law of nature. People will rarely choose loyalty over their own interests.

I think it all depends on who you are. Some people are loyal, some aren't.

Things change over time, so loyalty can change any moment

Both. People will stick with another for something they will get out of it. And people will also just stick with another person.
