It wouldn't matter if a series ended with a major cliffhanger, that does not determine renewal. What determines renewal is if it was financially successful. For a late night anime series, that means DVD and BD sales, and Deadman Wonderland apparently fared rather poorly in Japan. |

Mind linking me to your source of the poor sales? o.o Though, I don't see why it wouldn't have sold.. I loved this anime. |

I can't find the original source, but these two forums appear to have the exact same list I saw before: http://archive.easymodo.net/a/thread/52781003 http://www.narutoforums.com/showthread.php?t=690752 If you are wondering why Deadman Wonderland has all asterisks, that is because the sales were too small too rank (less than 1000). Note that is for combined sales of both DVD and BD formats. Now, that was early in the release cycle, but disc sales in Japan usually start strong, and then taper off. There have been some series that bucked the trend with increased sales for later volumes, but not enough to turn this around. For better or worse, what sells in Japan doesn't always match up with sales or popularity in the U.S., or other parts of the world. About the only way I see a second DW series being made is if it so astoundingly popular that an overseas company steps in and helps fund the production (as CN did with the second season of The Big O). |

Hmm...I'm disappointed. Well, lets hope some company helps fund it if they don't decide to make the 2nd season. >.< |

Truth be told, while I love Deadman Wonderland and hope there's a second season, they really did squander the first season by not setting up enough of the over-arching storyline. Not a lot really happens, and in the end it doesn't feel like there's much reason for there to be another season except for a few nagging questions. It's only if you've read the manga that you really feel like there's a lot more story to tell.
