She's an Internet sensation that was once just a voice. People making songs using her and posting them spread fast. Next thing you know, she's everywhere.

It sounds weird. I guess It's because I prefer more simple music, like Classical or Techno.

I always figured the character was just some other anime moe-blob, which attracted waves of fat, sweaty nerds to buy toys of it and whatnot.

I find the whole situation hilarious. And her voice is pretty shitty.

Hatsune Miku is popular with most people because shes just interesting, like all the other vocaloids. People never really see technology used like this, especially the people in America. The nico nico douga producers use their voices and make brilliant songs that, in my opinion, are WAY better than the stuff playing on the radio such as Lady Gaga or Lil Wayne.

Hatsune Miku is part of the band Vocaloid. Just like her, the other characters are just voice synthesizers. Miku is kinda just the main Vocaloid because she's so popular with others. The next popular Vocaloids are the Kagamine twins Rin and Len. The other Vocaloid characters are just there because each one has a different voice/singer. You know what they say, variety is the spice of life.

The Vocaloid singing synth had been going for a bit before Hatsune Miku.

When Vocaloid 2 came out people became fond of her characteristics and wanted to make more music out of her voice. The more songs = the more people hearing them = more popularity.

I think her light-hearted voice brought more poeple to the scene as well, making her one of the most popular Vocaloids.

But why is she awesome? You're giving the result of, not the means of. Which isn't at all helpful.

Too be blunt, Miku is a Mary Sue. She also appeals strongly to the moe fanbase because of her character designs and overall shifting characteristics.

But that's just scratching the surface. Why is she popular? It's something I'd like to know too. I mean, my side showing has involved selling merchandise of Vocaloid, but I want to know why people actually let me get away with such exponent prices. Why is she so popular? She doesn't seem all that extraordinairy. Sometimes, even underwhelming.

saying she's awesome without a valid reason isn't helpful. It's kinda like giving me a soda bottle with no soft drink inside. Not exactly fulfilling.

Haha yes I know everything you said was true.
I don't know why.

And I 100% agree with this. Even though it' not my thing, I'd rather hear this over the garbage that is passed for music on the radio these days.
