Its just if you compare them to the bigshots like akatsuki and kage levels like you always do, they ofc will seem pretty sucky. Compared to Naruto's friend they are powerfull as hell, Also they dont get alot of screen time cause they aint so relevant to the storyline. Now dont tell me two guards of Danzo wouldnt do damage even too people close to kage level, specially if you add a couple of more. Also Danzo himself was pretty bad ass.. But yeah i agree that the anime hasnt actually screened them as strong, but if you think about it they dont really suck.

JCossey 4256 cr points Send Message: 29 / M / New York Offline	Permalink Reply Quote Posted 3/29/12, edited 3/29/12 most note worthy anbu or former anbu: Kakashi, Itachi, Yamato, Shisui, Fuu, and Teruno. sadly we see so little we can't see how strong the anbu truely are because when we do see the actual masked characters they are trying to fight against someone more powerful then them. guess they are just more or less Cannon Fodder characters that are not really important to the story.

The anime team made them weak cause they are what 'some of us called' Cannon ' like the 3rd tail ark' which are related to the story yet it is not at the same time. Anbu in my eyes are like personal guards to the Kages which is special cause of what they have. Take Baku, is an Anbu who took position of guarding the Uchiha Police. It it said that when he take the mask off. He eyes can perceive through everything. He name take from Baku an beast that eat dream & nightmares. I think it like the huge beast that was shown in the battle with Sasuke. Danzou summon. We havn't seen much of what Fuu, Teruno, Shisui can do in combat, but all we know that they was approved by Danzou, who took interest in their's power, knowledge, which give the Danzou the advantage against enemies.

unfairmirror 100 cr points Send Message: 20 / M / unknown Offline	Permalink Reply Quote Posted 5/6/12 in my eyes they proaply do alot of work but wouldn't be hard to have the plotline show everything everyone was doing i think it would be neat if they did naruto anbu series in which they followed one team which reveals alot of what each person did maybe more plot twist but i see em as special forces you may think they aren't doing anything but why would they let you and every village know what there work/plan is.

Anbu is like top level basic ninjas who need to be on like multiple 5 man teams in order to really have any chance of succeeding and they will still take heavy loses. The Naruto world is filled with characters who could totally wreck like 50 anbu members in a 1 vs 50 or 2 vs 25 fight. Root is sick though. Sai is a bad example because the best combat skills he's shown in his 200+ episodes of existing was drop kicking someone once, but the other Anbu have some good skills that make them pretty dangerous three man cells.

Basically its supposed to be like look these guys are killing Anbu black ops, they must be more skilled then the people who are just regular Ninjas. It isn't worth developing a bunch of characters to kill them off, instead have a group of characters who are supposed to be more skilled so when they die it seems more impressive. I think in the world of Naruto however, there are so many great characters and Naruto has long since passed the level of Anbu black ops so all the characters they introduce have to be on Narutos level and at this point the entire leaf village is weaker then sage mode Naruto, let a lone Naruto with the Nine tails unlocked. Because of this, Anbu is going to get destroyed by anybody even trying to fight Naruto. However Anbu did get destroyed in the Orochimaru attack as well. I guess they are just supposed to be better fodder to high level enemies then regular Shinobi.

The story could still progress if they were competent and tons of interesting things could happen, especially drama. Tons of war films and TV shows don't feature god level characters that can pwn an entire army in an instant but are still packed with drama, interesting things, and story progression.
