Ok, im a big fan of valkyria chronicles. i bought the first two games and their dlc. im worried that the third game might not be available here. i want to get the extra edition of valkyria chronicles 3 whenever that comes out. Btw i have never imported anything in my life :D.

1) I dont know japanese, is there a way to make the words english and have subtitles in the cut scenes?

2) Do I need a japanese psp or can i use my american psp 3000?

3) Is there anything i should know, have, or are there any tips you can give me?

*Hopefully the game does reach the states so i keep playing this awesome game. Early thanks for any reply :D!

It does not look like Valkyria Chronicles 3 will be translated. Perhaps when the Vita is released, there will be opportunities to reissue PSP games on that system. But as it is, the PSP is often regarded as a system where games just don't sell.

In regards to your first question, very few video games made in Japan contain English text. Here and there, you'll find an import-friendly game which has menus in English. But generally speaking, if a Japanese game does not get an official translation, then fans will probably have to cope with untranslated scenes and menus.

As for your second question, all PSP games sold on discs are region free. In other words, if you import a game on a UMD, it will work on any PSP system. A while back, I imported the UK version of Tales of Eternia for PSP, and had no problem getting it to work with my console.

Other advice... I'm glad to hear you bought the second Valkyria game. If you are trying to support video game localization, then it's always wise to purchase games in the first few weeks after they get released. Companies have been struggling to make money from selling officially translated games. There's still a decent number of high profile games with professional translations, but definitely not as many as there were just five years ago. So if you want to support them, then buy products before they get relegated to bargain bins.

Also, strive to support fan translation groups. There are a few people and teams who have been translating games which publishers consider unprofitable. While some of them only work on vintage games, others have had success translating DS, PSP, and Wii games. You can find some fan translators on the Romhacking message board, and others on the GBATemp forum.

Thanks for the help. yeah i bought the first one a month or two before the second one came out XD. but i did buy the second game a week after it came out. im glad the UMDs are region free. i dont want to drop another 130 on another psp lol.

It's a shame that is going on. They can count on me to buy their games B).

That's cool I'll have to check out those fan translation groups sometime. I'm sure the vita will do well with all those nice games coming out for it... hopefully XD.
