Funimation got that title... both the dvd rights and they also intend to simulcast it.

I'm just hoping someone... nay, ANYONE decides to simulcast Chihayafuru in Canada. Not particularily interested in Squid Girl though I may give it a try.

Great news. Love this series.

As related in this CR forum post, there was a tweet by Viz that there have been multiple offers for the show, and Viz states they might not get it. If a company that also does home video sales like Viz thinks they might not get it, what chance would there be that a streaming only site like CR could beat out the likes of Funimation and Sentai (who I would assume are among those "multiple offers"). On the upside, it appears the odds are good this will be simulcast (and later released on home video). On the downside, this means dim prospects for a CR simulcast, which in turn means dim prospects for a simulcast outside of the U.S. & Canada.




It airs at 2 AM on Tuesday mornings in Japan. For a good quick list of what is airing when:

Keep in mind that early morning shows are listed as greater than 24:00 for the air time, with the previous day's date (i.e., Shinryaku!? Ika Musume (Squid Girl 2) is listed as "09/26 26:00".




Chihayafuru lists NTV (Nippon TV) as the sole primary network. Unfortunately, checking back to the start of 2009, the only anime I found that listed NTV as the sole primary network that had a simulcast was Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin in Spring 2010, which was simulcast by Funimation. (Coincidentally, like Chihayafuru, this was produced by Madhouse) and Inuyasha -The Final Act- in Fall 2009, which was simulcast by Viz.

Unless Funimation snags Hunter x Hunter, I doubt they will have any simulcast for the Fall other than the new Last Exile series.

Note that "sole primary network" is important, as some shows had NTV and YTV as co-primaries, and YTV has an agreement with Crunchyroll.

In summary: Odds for a simulcast are low, and odds of a simulcast by CR are even lower.

Unfortunately, Shana will probably be one of the minority of "no simulcast" shows this time around.

I would be quite happy to be wrong about that, but I have my reasons for believing that.

You are correct about Letter Bee; no third season has been green-lit.

There really is no reason to be surprised about what shows are or are not coming out each season. Someone creates a new topic for each new season about the time the old one ends (and about half the time, that someone is me). For example, the Fall 2011 anime topic has been around for over 3 months now, and I started the one for Winter 2012 anime a couple of days ago.
