Lol, does Netflix know you basically stole their UI? I don't really mind, it's nice and I like the way it works. I just thought it was kind of funny haha...

Also @everyone who said it: I agree, they need an app for the PS3 and the like....

And it looks AWESOME! I love the new interface, and especially the search function!

Though my only gripe is that some series like Gintama, KHR, and Bleach have the subtitles cut on the bottom of the screen when viewed on Roku

Oh yes! This is a seriously annoying problem.

Can you please fix this CR? All the animes in 4:3 (which as a LOT of the older ones) have the subtitles too low on the screen so it cuts off the bottom half of the words.

Are you watching on a flat screen HDTV or an older SD set? If the latter, there isn't much you can do, but if you are watching on an HDTV, it probably has overscan turned on in the settings, which while the default, is not only unnecessary but actually degrades the picture quality slightly for HD programming.

Maybe I'm missing it but what happened to the 'favorites' option? I would just click that to view my fav anime but now I have to search them all again so they show at the top. Plus that was how I knew a new episode was available.

I have a flat screen hdtv. I've tried watching those types of animes in all the various different options and none will make it so that the text is correct. The picture quality is fine and it doesn't cut off parts of the picture, either. It's only the subtitles that are the problem.

Can you cite a specific episode that has this problem at the beginning, so I can check it out on my Roku?

I notice also that you referred to 4:3 aspect ratio series, while the person you responded to earlier (powder1984) was reporting the problem with Bleach, KHR and Gintama which should all be 16:9.

It's any anime that is 4:3, which is a healthy portion of the older animes and all of the really old animes, including older Bleach (can't remember where they switched to 16:9), Gintama seasons 1-4, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Hayate the Combat Butler, Steel Angel Kurumi.

For a specific episode, you can try any of those, but it would probably be easiest with Gintama. Just go to any episode of any season except for season 5, since that is when they switched to 16:9.

Yes you are behind the times, they got rid of it earlier this month for the queue function I personally liked the favorites but when it comes to Roku I like seeing the top ten in my queue since it's quicker to see what ep I left off at.

I just tried Gintama episode 1, and currently have it paused at 1 minute in with no problems with the subtitles. That is a the point where Kagura is introduced, and all three lines of the subtitle down to the last line ("She's cute but has a sharp tounge") are fully visible on the screen, with a space equal to half to two-thirds of a line between that last line and the bottom of the image onscreen.

This is from a scene a bit later (at about 6 minutes in):

As I stated before, overscan is normally on by default on HD sets, but isn't needed. Unfortunately, every TV manufacturer seems to call it something else in the settings.

It is BLISS now. It's a little on the dark side.. but I'm cool with that. You can skim through the episodes very rapidly now. The mechanics work very very well. Thank you for doing this. (If you don't have a Roku, you really should consider getting one. So much nicer watching episodes on a big TV than a computer screen) It boils down to, I do not buy cable TV anymore. I have over the air for local news, Netflix and CR on my Roku and the YouTube app on the side, and I'm set. AND I save money over buying cable.

Yours displays it centered with black on the sides, whereas mine doesn't. It stretches it to the width of the screen, which ends up cutting off the top and the bottom.

I have no idea what "overscan" is so I couldn't tell you if my TV is probably doing that or not. I also don't have the newest Roku, I have the older cheaper one, Roku XD. I dunno what one you have so I don't know if that's possibly a problem with limited settings options or something.

I didn't think to try to fix it in my settings on my TV as everything else I've played on my Roku, whether it's CR 16:9 animes or other applications, plays just fine. I did end up going to my TV settings though and the only "solution" I found was to raise the placement of the picture up. Frustrating that I have to cut off more of the top of the picture, but I guess it works for now.
