Are You My Master?

The first episode is out! As promised I am making this general discussions thread/impressions thread for it.

Fate/Zero is a prequel to the anime series Fate/StayNight, taking place during the previous Holy Grail War. The full description can be found here: http://myanimelist.net/anime/10087/Fate/zero

You can watch it legally on NicoNicoDouga: ch.nicovideo.jp/channel/fate-zero with SUBS!!! Plus its 720p.
Will require an account though. But even if you don't understand Japanese it shouldn't be too difficult to figure things out.

SEASON 2 started on April the 7th, and a new episode will be added every week.

EDIT:

Good News!

It seems CR also picked up licensing for this series which is strange since its rare for two companies to license the same series. But I'm not complaining about 720p. So here you can watch Fate/Zero although a week later.

FYI, if you have an account at NicoNico.com (i.e, for their Summer simulcasts), that same sign-in information will work for NicoNico.jp.

I have to say the video quality leaves something to be desired. Even for 640x360 video, 252Kbps seems quite low.

Wow, that was much better than I expected, maybe this show will turn out to be quite good after all.

WARNING, disturbing pictures contained in spoilers.

That simulteneous summoning in the end was quite cool though. And I shall redeem myself for the previous pic with this, Loli Rin!

One thing I noticed about the episode was the length: 47:40 is a bit too long for a normal episode of an anime, and yet, it wasn't a double episode.

All in all, I really enjoyed it. It was awesome, especially the end with the introductions of the servants (well, four of them).

It was a special feature episode, an hour long special (if you include ads during the broadcast). The rest of the episodes will be normal 25mins eps and this WILL be a 2 cours show.

I hope Nico Nico boosts the bitrate for the encoding, otherwise the action sequences will suffer. For verification of this, note the action at the beginning of ED, and the heavy mosaic artifacts.

The quality doesn't look too bad, in fact, it looks very good. Just what I expect from ufotable after their work on KnK. The first episode's introduction was quite boring honestly, but hopefully the series will be as impressive as the ED. Loving it a lot.

So as I mentioned in the first post, CR seems to be licensing this show but why the one week delay? That's not how simulcasts work.

But whatever, I encourage people to use the NND stream if you can, registration really doesn't take that long (just make sure you go through the English version) and this show is too good to wait around for.

So if the choice was either accept the one week delay (which happens to be the period NND offers it for free), or not have it at all, Crunchryoll have chosen the latter?

For someone that doesn't have a premium account at CR, it makes sense not to wait, as the resolution is the same. Just hope you don't get hit by "economy mode" that NND can engage during periods of heavy demand, which greatly degrades the quality. That turned out to be the reason the video quality was so bad when I viewed the first episode about 20 minutes after it was scheduled to be made available.

As for myself, being a premium member, I'll wait for 720p that stays the same quality. I typically end up beginning about half the simulcast shows near the end of the season, or even after, so a one week wait is nothing.

As I expected, Ufotable did a great job on the animating Fate/Zero. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't make any claymation segment(which I find it very amusing) but since this is just the first episode I may have spoke too soon.
