Basically, name times where the anime studios had a better story than the original manga author.

Well, I know some anime are better than the manga and I know this is off topic, but I know instances where the opposite is true. The Negima anime was horrible, I was fine with it diverting from the manga, but they completely removed some of the characters I wanted to see, and the story just made no sense, at all. The Hayate no Gotoku manga is way better than the anime, for pretty much the same reason as the Negima manga, they diverted off too much and removed characters I wanted to see.

Other than that, I tend to favor the anime, there are more where the manga is better, but I either cannot remember them right now, or I did nor read the manga or watch the anime or both.

"Angelic Layer" and season one of "Magic Knight Rayearth", both by CLAMP, were better in the anime than they were in the manga. Both benefitted a good deal from the extra time spent in character development, and "Angelic Layer" in particular benefitted from the additional backstories of the game and the contenders. Also, as I recently heard someone else mention, fight scenes really do need to be animated. Manga just can't do them justice.

Birdy the Mighty: Decode was a great anime but I couldn't get through even 2 chapters of the manga. The character designs on the anime were better and the male protagonist, who was a good likable kid in a bad situation but actually helpful to the heroine in the anime, was whiny and kind of a tool in the manga. Maybe he had some character development later on but I gave up early.

Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple is another example of an anime that I thought was better than the manga. Both are full of fan service but the anime was so funny and the main hero such a loser that it didn't matter. The manga just had too many unnecessary crotch shots and boring plot developments (once it went beyond the animated story). This is just my opinion though, plenty of people love Kenichi so what do I know.

Those are really the only examples I can think of, usually both anime and manga versions are good.

Those two anime were the reason I made this thread, and I think MKR season 2 had a better ending than the manga. (who breaks the fourth wall for a manga ending, honestly?)

The RahXephon anime is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the shitty manga I'd like to wipe my ass with. I'm not even joking, it's possibly the worst thing I've ever read.

Nabari no ou and Eureka Seven. Also I think manga like Gintama and Sket Dance are better when animated.

The anime is fun, at least. And a lot more moving.
