No. A straight guy would automatically turn gay once he opens up a Yaoi manga. Look it up---it's in the Bible.

I've watched a few yaoi anime all the way through just because I was tired of the typical high school romance stuff and wanted something a little more grown up. As in, two adults, out of college, figuring out a relationship and falling in love. Mind you, I love most anime but sometimes I want something I can relate to a little more as an adult. And who cares what the genders are. I imagine some guys watch it for just that reason. A good story is reason enough to watch it.

Bring out the fudanshi!

[Anyone read Fudanshism or My Girlfriend's a Geek? According to them, a guy could get into yaoi for the sake of the girl he loves...though I doubt that happens much in real life.]

I read a bit of it, but I don't go around telling even my otaku friends I do. It's like what the others have said, if the story is any good that in itself is a reason to read/see it through.

Why is this even an issue?

Why should a heterosexual male feel uncomfortable watching yaoi while a heterosexual female watches yaoi? IF people are so squeamish about their gender identity, shouldn't both male and female heterosexuals be uncomfortable watching yaoi? Shouldn't heterosexual females be turned off by yaoi as well?

Neither male or female heterosexuals should be intimidated by yaoi. If yaoi or yuri genre are just not interesting to someone, whatever their gender identity maybe, he/she should be bored, not intimidated.

It's like watching Spongebob. I can't stand Spongebob. Not only is it boring, but it is also irritating. However, Spongebob appeals to many little kiddies. Some kids grow out of the Spongebob phase faster than others.

Because not *all* yaoi is mindless smut. Some are very well written with actual plots. Not most, but some. Though I find an awful lot of yaoi to not be THAT sex based anyway considering it caters to young girls. I think a lot of people also get confused and label shounen-ai as yaoi, then go and read something like loveless(which I would hardly even consider shounen-ai) and say they read yaoi.

I have known a lot of "straight" girls who are in to yuri or even straight up lesbian porn. I think women are just more open about this sort of thing. I don't see any reason past societal conditioning that men should be absolutely appalled by anything having to do with two men together. The best straight men I've known have not had an issue with it.

LIC speaks much truth. :)

I am one such person that doesnt have a problem with guys being together.

Why would a gay guy play a straight person on a TV show? Why would a straight person play a gay guy in a movie?

I am straight and i read both yaoi and yuri, i dont think reading yuri/yaoi makes you gay or lesbian just because you read it. I mainly read yuri because i want to test every genre to find the animes i like. Yaoi is only for pure enjoyment. I dont have feelings for girls in general at all, its just all anime for me.
