I don't get it. NicoNico streams it worldwide! What is keeping Crunchyroll from doing that too?
Because NicoNico got the rights to stream it worldwide, and Crunchyroll didn't.

That's how media distribution business works ~ Crunchyroll puts in a bid a simulcast for every series that is broadcast to every country outside of Japan. They win some series (normally at less than worldwide distribution), and fail to win others.

Then Crunchyroll goes back on the series it did not sign the premier simulcast rights to, and finds out if it can get secondary streaming rights.

finneas This is actually an interesting point, CR. Is the number of subscriptions from a particular country a good indication of the selection of anime that then becomes available in that region?

@finneas: No I don't think so. Of course the more memberships they have the more they can afford to spend on each license, but CR basically wants to be able to stream everything everywhere. If it is not available in a certain region, it is not due to lack of trying on CR's side but from the licensor. ...
And its from the side of the licensor that the number of subscribers in a country matters. The main argument that Crunchyroll can make is "if x% of subscribers from this country decide to watch your series, you can make $y extra." The more members in a country, the more attractive it becomes to add that country, if possible, because "x%" translates into more subscriber views, so more royalty payments.

However, different production committees and different licensors slice up the world in different ways, and its normally only worthwhile "adding" a country if it can be done in a single countract. If a second contract is required, contracting costs can easily swallow the extra income generated by adding that extra country, leaving no net benefit to the licensor.

Definitely the new licenses through NTV were good news for UK members but bad news for Scandinavian members, after several seasons of getting all series with international licenses.

But its too early for people in some regions to jump to any conclusions on how things are going to shake out this season. For example, subscribers in South America got 60% of series last season. If the next four announcements are available to subscribers in South America ~ they would be at 60%.

And by the same token, AnimeOnDemand in the UK seems likely to get some series, which will mean that the current run of series available in the UK and Ireland is going to be interupted sometime in this week or the next.

Have wanted to see Working for a while but only getting the second season does make it pretty pointless. Good for people that have seen the first season at least.

May watch Fate/Zero, not sure yet. Am mildly interested. Not really impressed with this season in general, though, let alone what CR has actually picked up so far. Pretty disappointing.

I'm very happy CR will be getting Fate/Zero. I'd rather watch it here than Nico Nico.

I want to formally apologize on the behalf of the Japanese, to all those born in the wrong country without the financial means to move somewhere anime-friendly.

I am sorry streams are not available in your region.

I was once a premium due to exceptionally wide coverage in Finland. I am premium no more.

So long, and thanks for all the fish. I can only find it ironic, that the subscription cancellation message would say:

"Thank you for your gracious support of Crunchyroll. It really goes a long way to help revolutionize the way Asian media is viewed around the world!"

Indeed. Perhaps, if the coverage improves, I shall reconsider subscribing, but as it stands now, if none of the series I desire to watch are available, then what am I paying for?

How nice of you to also cancel my premium access immediately, instead of allowing me my allocated time. Though, I am not mighty miffed due to my billing date being tomorrow.
