Those are the four big "NO's." Find me a nice psychological thriller, or a gory horror show, and you'll get my eternal love and gratitude.

Note: Why isn't "Harem" in the genre?

You pretty much just listed 90% of animes there is on the market.....

Why isn't that on the list? Good question. Maybe it's because you should watch it?

Harem isn't the biggest focus of the story. Trust me, it's very funny. At least the novels are. It's one of japan's best selling series, and the studio is great too. I heard this became the season's favorite after 1 ep......

And I'm not sure what do you mean by harem..... The term just means a guy protagonist usually surrounded by 3 or more girls that sometimes have romantic interest in them. So, A LOT of animes can be considered harem animes. I'm pretty sure you mean you do not kind generic harem that have poorly done gag cliches.well, this has promises to not.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Harem.

1 Man, with a friend who's pervy.
3+ Women, including, but not limited to:Childhood friend, random-girl-who-appears, milf teacher, loli, tsundere, quiet-girl, and rarely "Overambitious FIGHT EVERYTHING girl." Childhood friend and "OFE girl" may be combined, as with the "Loli/Tsundere". Recently harems have been incorporating a "Sadist" character as well. Most, if not all girls will only be interested in the Main Male Character, while the Pervy Side Character gets mostly ignored. On the off chance, the Pervy Side Character may get a girl, but the girl is almost always harsh/sadistic/tsundere.

Massive amount of ecchi, half-clothed women are extremely common.
That, my friend, is a Harem.

Also: Japan is full of sick, twisted f**ks* who like nothing more than rape and children combined. I tend not to care if they rate a series highly (Except for one piece. That show is good.)

I'll try the show, I guess. I honestly don't feel interested in it though. Your efforts to get me to watch it are valiant, so I will try at least two episodes, if not my usual three. If I can get into town, that is. Where I live, there's a 200 MB/24h hard cap on the internet...22 minute anime episode = 70-120 MB.

*This is not a certified level of Trollbait, so Trolls should not be attracted. On the off chance they are, proceed with plan "Ignore 101".

Well from what I've heard and what has been confirmed on this thread so far, most if not all of those characteristics of the typical harem show you listed don't apply to this show. but seeing as I myself have not read the mangas or light novels, I don't know for sure if they show up later or not.

That being said, I for one have been anxiously looking forward to this show ever since I first heard about it on "Moetron.com" last spring, and at least one of my good friends has been enthusiastically been recommending it (he HAS read the manga). Thought I thought it was a long shot that CR would get it, I still hope at least somebody gets the streaming rights, or worse comes to worse I'll have to look towards the less than legal streams to get it.

Again, I think what you are describing here is a "generic harem," which I despise as well. There are plenty of harem shows that turned out to be good.
For example
Clannad, which almost matched your description, but is by most considered a masterpiece.
Code Geass, widely regarded as one of the best animes in the last few years, included harem elements.
Sora no Otoshimono, included some of the most emotional scenes I've seen in it's genre alOng with funny randomness.

I won't promise you gold mountain if you watch this, so you can have low expectation. And there Is definitely no male friend perv, as none of the main characters have ANY friends.
Its entertaining to watch a bunch of social rejects talk in a room like that, try to go up to ep 3 cause that when the other characters show up. And tell me what you thought about it herd please! Hope you enjoy.

Exactly. I didn't really like the show, the art styles put me off. I'm not a big fan of the whole "Make everything remotely female look cute."

That's why I like Gintama so much. The characters look half decent. Black Lagoon, Ghost in a shell, Beserk, Gantz, etc, etc. I give Clannad a 3/5, by the way. It was...okay.

You don't really get my point, do you. I'm talking about shows that ARE the harem genre. Shows that revolve AROUND the fact that the show is a harem. Code Geass was definitely not revolving around the "Harem" idea. It was a decent show, but I'm not a big fan of oversized robots bashing each other.

Clannad was still a harem, but it wasn't a HAA-REM. There was basically no ecchi in it, and it focused on all the character's stories, rather than just Main guy+Girls. The thing you're not understanding is that what I'm talking about, "Generic Harems" as you put it, isn't what I mean. You can give any show harem ELEMENTS, but if you focus on the OTHER elements, such as comedy/drama/romance, then you have a proper show. Here's a good example. Ever seen Kanokon? It's a crappy harem show about a huge-breasted fox girl who tries to do it with a little boy. Toss in a few other female characters, and, well, there you go. Harem. The show focused 0% on drama or romance, with only the most trace elements of comedy. Hell, by your reasoning, you could say that Gintama is a harem. Durarara must be a harem then too, right?

I said I will definitely try the show, because I cannot give it a fair rating unless I do. It just doesn't appeal to me. I have a lot of other shows to watch, and even more now that Fate/Zero and Working!! Season two came out. A good final example on a "Harem that is not a harem" is Higurashi no naku koro ni. I rest my case.

Excuse me if I'm being an asshole, but I'm tired. It's 10 AM and I was up until 6 AM last night doing some work, so 4 hours of sleep doesn't cut it. I'm going to go rest for now.

(Never seen Sora no Otoshimono, fyi.)

What? I thought Clannad ~After Story~ was amazing.
Best romance / drama anime to date.

Or did you only see the first season?
:o

EDIT.
I love Gintama too.

Ugh. Please ignore my first post, I was about 12% awake. No, this is not an excuse. I do actually like Clannad, it had a great storyline and the ending to After Story was heartbreaking. But I just got sick and tired of how the characters looked, it drove me insane. The first season seemed to focus on the "Cute" factor, but the second season focused far more on the drama...

I hope I made things clearer now. I really have to stop waking up and checking crunchyroll, at least not until I get some caffeine in my system. And yes, Gintama is awesome. I started watching after there was 250 or so episodes out, and I watched every single one in one sitting. Except for food and, uh, toiletry breaks of course.

I found the character designs good, actually.
But I guess everybody can't have the same opinion so...

And about Gintama. I remember dropping it 2 or 3 times lol.
Glad I picked it up again. It's now my 2nd fave.

I dropped gintama after the first ten minutes due to other series.

But clannad's story...... Very realistic, it was almost depressing to watch. And first season had no Kyou arc!

But humans we need to discuss this show! Tell what you thought of it!

Interesting. I'm just not a fan of cute, I guess. I'm More of the gristly blood-soaked zombie type than anything else...

And how could you drop Gintama? Ever since episode 20 (The mosquito one), it's been my #2 show. Cracks me up all the time...
