Definitely what a lot of us are thinking I'm sure.

What I really wonder is how they are selecting the 10... if they are...

Finalists are coming! We are just coordinating some PR efforts behind it.

Also, some news on the 3D data import feature, but I can't say what or when just yet...

Thanks!

...and how will the rest of the people know where voting is when the moderators only post things on the site news forum?
they should post stuff in the comipo forums too.

Lemme guess... pay more for 3d import?

Because that would blow.

Hey Everyone!

Well, I’m pretty bummed out about not getting chosen in the contest. And I bet there’s a ton of other people who feel the same way. So I decided to showcase my REPICKS for this contest to give recognition to all the people who put so much work and effort into their Manga!

I just went through all the manga before October the 18th and found some nice trial version contest entries that didn’t seem to get recognized the first time around.

I have below a list I made after a few hours of compiling (the sort function helped tons, and not keeping the entries down to 10 also made things easier and faster). I just wrote some quick blurbs of my thoughts on the entries. I basically just chose based on: Interesting Technique, or Humour, or Unique Idea. Technique was hard, because I wasn’t sure if it was all done with the Trial Version. That probably got people unfortunately disqualified I guess, I’m not sure how they could tell if you did it all with the trial version or not, so they might have been a bit harsh on the contest choices? You can actually get a bunch of great effects with the trial version, so I gave extra focus on interesting things.

So the prize! Well, I guess if you win, we (or just the people who voted for you...) will give you our support in maybe getting squeezed into the ACTUAL contest. Or at least in getting more recognition in the forum.

So, Good luck, and Great work everyone! And Super Sorry for any excellent manga contest entries I may have overlooked!

Tiny text aside, I think I could make out most of it. I think I can totally tell what anime you watch just by the references you made. But what anime has Sea-Monkeys in it???!! Name it and it’ll top my Watch List!

I was a “reaction #3” kinda guy. I think you summed up nicely what everyone’s feelings for ComiPo! are.

3. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4307907347
How did you get it to look like people were behind their desks? I guess you chopped off the bottom half of the character and had the top above the seat? It was nice scaling in that classroom scene of students I thought. Working with the trial version that is. (Also, you say “fanatics” like it’s a bad thing, but you really can’t have enough girls (^.^) )

4. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4307911443
You should have Phoenix Wright’d up that OBJECTION a notch! But the pony-tail lowered as a cat tail! Brilliant for the trial version! Good technique. Bonus moe points as well.

I’ve got a soft spot for bad puns. Not that yours was bad. It was really...killer...? The text got a bit small, but, blame the Trail version. Nice use of fade for ghost effect. The punchline was so cliche that it somehow turned out good.

6. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4307920033
I don’t know if this was trial version or not. The Effect was excellent though. The dark blue colouring. Nice. The rain background. Nice. The cursive text in white non-outlined thought bubble. Nice. Gratuitous Visual Shot? Nice.

7. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4308080759
The build-up wasn’t so bad. But are those stars supposed to be multicoloured in the trail version?

8. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4308087275
Was this with the trial version?? Awesome game effects! How’d you get those Game Character outlines? Fill colour, then increase and recolor outline length? And what about the Health bars? I guess they are just solid recolored rectangles? Very unique and awesome comic idea.

9. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4308103341
Nice paneling and final punchline. Just a final sour look, and a scream. I thought it was funny and well done.

10. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4308103861
Yesss, more bad punsss. Well, it’s not really all that punny. Wow. I really liked the paneling set-up. It’s like a samurai duel. The eye close-ups. The letter-box wide view of the 2 combatants. The engagement clash. And...the finale!

11. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4308106582
I had to read it a couple to times, but I liked the joke. I thought it was pretty funny. Well done here, and I think we all share the same sentiment as the “ghost” in this one.

12. http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphoto?id=4308214645#s=1
I liked the little internal monologue. I'm sure we could all use a little primal scream now and again. RAWRRR!!!!

Voting Format
To avoid confusion, please label voting properly so that the Crunchyroll Staff can quickly read the votes. If the Crunchyroll Staff finds my "Unofficial PoCon" a bit confusing, I would not mind if they moved this topic into it's own thread or something.

All of them are great! Congrats all around!

EDIT

Well, the First Contest has finally reached completion, Great Job Winners, Enjoy ComiPo! I hope you all find success in later contests, and especially in the Otaku-Verse contest to maybe even find your way into getting Published in Japan!

ComiPo activity seems to have really slowed down since the First Contest began. Manga uploads and forum posts haven't been that frequent (though there are still many dedicated fans).
Hopefully, Crunchyroll has prepared some more regular, and properly scheduled, Contests and Activities to keep people involved. We would like to hear more from Crunchyroll on their thoughts of Future plans, an their take on Forum User input. Hopefully, communication doesn't get bogged down by PR or by excessive inappropriate forum dumping (EIFD).

Thanks for all your work, and for creating such great opportunities Crunchyroll!

Activity on the ComiPo! forums have slowed down most likely because people are busy working on a manga to upload to ComiPo!, or they are just plain busy with life.

Hey Everyone!

I wasn't sure if it was completely clear, because the Crunchyroll forum didn't seem to mention it, but I'd just like to confirm the Otaku-Verse Contest Deadline based on this email I received once I won a copy of ComiPo:

"Now that you have the full version of ComiPo!, you are ready to enter the
Otaku-Verse Zero / ComiPo! Contest!

Make an original manga using ComiPo!
Upload it to the ComiPo! Image Gallery.
http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/ComiPo!_Image_Gallery/manga

5 people will win a special set of Premium Items for use with ComiPo!
and the Grand Prize winner will have their original comic translated and
electronically published in Japan!

Just be sure to keep your comic under 16 pages!
The theme for your comic should be "Strange Japanese School Days"!
The deadline for the contest is January 14th, 2012 (Japan Standard Time)

For more details about both the contest, please check out the official
ComiPo! Facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/Manga.Maker.ComiPo"

Well, I hope this helps you guys out!
And just to be sure, I hope someone can confirm whether "under 16 pages" means that the manga must be 15 pages or less. Just wanted to make 100% sure that we can't have that full 16 pages. Every page counts you know!
And for "Japan Standard Time", does that mean we have to submit quite a bit earlier to get it timed properly? And is this contest International?
I look forward to seeing all your submissions, Good Luck Everyone!
