My friends know i watch Anime and i got a few of them to watch Attack On Titan and some others like S.A.O and No game No Life. they don't really care to much, but i don't like talking about Anime in school or around people i don' know because a lot of people seem to think that anime is some weird forbidden Japanese crap that you should stay away from so i use the term "animations"

In my own life experience (of 24 years...) here is what I found out:

A common misconception the general population has is either: 1) "Anime is kids' stuff" (based off of the Yugiohs, Pokemons, etc of my childhood) or a much rarer one 2) All you watch is hentai. Many of the friends I had outside of anime club would have 1st misconception.

When I was in middle school and high school, I hid the fact that I liked anime from everyone, other than my family and my friends in my school's anime club. In my school, the anime club kids were the "low man on the totem pole" so to speak and were often bullied and picked on by others.

I went to to college out of state and was able to start over. I found that in a way people "grow up" in college. I made a great group of friends in college and they accepted me for who I was. I even converted some to some animes.

I have since moved back home to where I grew up and I was at a group meeting with some of the old friends that I thought would've made fun of me in high school for liking anime. It turns out one watched Sailor Moon growing up! I mean they still aren't hardcore otaku like I am, but to know that they have watched some anime gave me comfort to be myself.

Yeah, most know I watch it but very few care.

We're all a bit older than judgemental teenagers and anime's got to a point where it's reasonably socially acceptable, soon
