This was posted elsewhere on the CR forum but as it's relevant to culture and change i'd thought id post it here too.
a couple of simple recommendations & questions:
Work on making educated consumer choices.
Where does your food come from?
Where do your clothes come from?
Where is your money going & who/what is it supporting?
Do the people/companies you employ through commerce share your outlook/morals?
Where does their bottom line end?
Whats a product/service you could make yourself or do without.
What are the ecological/socio-political repercussions of our consumer decisions?
I create/ask myself these kind of questions all the time.
We vote with money!
Open your own business. Support other local like-minded business. Branch out.

Americans have a lot to criticize right here. A lot easier to judge others than take responsibility for ourselves

if it is just the simple things like what they traditionally wear, religion, customs etc - leave them, be tolerant, no self-centeredness and feeling your own culture is superior

if we're talking about values such as how they value life, how they treat other people [all people, whether the said others belong to their own culture or not] and these 'different' values lead to horrid events/ things like apartheid, genocide etc - then no matter how old, ingrained, widespread or whatever else their values are, we need to help them change.

it might seem impossible, but its not. tons of hard work but totally do-able

case in point, women's rights, racism; now we have obama and clinton, both from "inferior" social classes running as president of the united states

Every culture has good points and bad points. I think all cultures need to change a little, but as far as arranged marriages go, it really doesn't do any harm. arranged marriages don't fail nearly as often as ones based on 'love' (possibly because they understand and willingly fulfill their cultural roles in the marriage). as far as second rate women go, that one is a little more difficult because it is tough to destinguish between the current cultural practice and the origional intent of those practices. if you look carefully cultures that so called degrade women also focus on how sacred women and thier bodies are. I disagree with many of the current practices particularly treating women as property and being violent toward them, but I agree with the cultural intent that women are sacred and their virtue and modesty should be protected from others lusts.

Yes I wanted 2 write the same things .Plus I also think that western society idolizing celebrities. All "fans" crying screaming and so on.
every culture has it good and bad points.nothing is ideal.

Maybe, but never by outside interference. That's just not how it works. Hell, if we take the mega-liberal way out of things and just make every culture the same, it really won't be an interesting world. I personally like to see variety. And what's variety without problems? America's got too many problems to count, Britain's snooty, no one likes France, Poland is just there, Japan has anime, China's getting too big, and the Middle East isn't doing so well. But that's what makes us interesting and different people.

i think it should not be changed. it's a country's identity. it's what separates one country from another.

maybe, what should be done is, people should only do it if they want to do it. we should not be obliged to do something because our culture dictates so.

anyway...i dont think you should changed others cultures....no matter how weird or retarded they may be....that would be up to those who's culture it is to decide whether they want to or not...
