Ok Funico is the partnership between the anime liceser Funimation and the Japan version of Youtube "Nico Nico." They have formed partnerships to help each other market anime! Funimation want Nico Nico to broadcast series of anime from Japan that are not licesed here yet and use the infomation that Nico Nico gathers like views, likes, and reviews. So Funimation can use that info to license anime and start selling Blueray discs and DVDs in North America. Yes, thats not a problem for any anime fans, but that means less anime shows for Crunchyroll!!!!! So this poll is to tell everyone about it and to put Crunchyroll on the move to start talking about partnering up with other anime licesers like Media Blasters and Sentai Filmworks!

As a fan of this site I'm personally against it. Cause of this CR could be getting less shows or delayed casts from Sentai.

Only way I can see CR keeping themselves alive is through their drama section and getting old series that are out of print or has never been released in the US.

I also like Funimation too, but if they drive CR into the ground because of this I will never forgive them and I will detest them. <_<

On Niconico you have to pay to view older episodes that have been up for more than a week plus they only have a monthly plan.

On CR there is only two titles that are for anime members only and the rest are free with ad-support one week after its airing and remains free until the streaming rights expire.

I think CR has the better business model imo

Competition is always good for the consumer since it will always give the consumer choice.

Does this mean that titles will only be either on CR or Nico-Nico if there is competition? Not Necessarily. R-15 is already on both sites and doing well as far as I know. As far as I understood it, the publisher gives/sells the rights out as to who has the right to stream, print disks (DVD/Blu-Ray), or broadcast (On Air/Cable).

For streaming I select CR since it gives premium members 720P quality video, which is also commercial free. I think NicoNico has something different that did not interest me.

I did read the article from Anime News Network. I do think it is a smart move for Funimation to partner up with someone for streaming since they can use the data to determine which IP (Intellectual Property) will be profitable to bring over on disk (DVD/Blu-Ray). Can CR offer the same services to Media Blasters and Sentai Filmworks? I see no reason not to.

Although I did already vote yes for this poll, I am pretty sure a company such as Funimation would be looking at data for all anime IP as to what would be profitable to bring over to NA (North America) and print it on disk. I am also pretty sure all three companies Sentai Filmworks, Media Blasters, and Funimation all look at the data no matter where it comes from. I will still purchase physical media If I really like something.

Back to topic. Does the move by Funimation effect CR? From my understanding it does, only to a degree. Yes, NicoNico would get first pick and may have an opportunity to have it available for streaming first. CR can still also get rights for streaming but may probably only have it available perhaps a week or so later. It may depend on the publisher as to how the rights or deal was setup with both NicoNico and CR. It would be interesting to see how competition would turn out.
