For this topic, my first love was Super Metriod for the SNES, second comes ZOE 2 and the third is Paper Mario 64. Curious as to see what a large community has to say about their favorites!

The game that helped me go from "kid who kinda likes Atari 2600" to "young man who really likes video games" was Super Mario Bros.

The game that got me interested in RPGs and games with more than mindless action was Zelda 2. Playing the first Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior not long afterwards really helped.

The visual novel that got me thinking that the media form could tell interesting stories was Season of the Sakura. A few years later, I read A Midsummer Day's Resonance, and decided that visual novels could be good even without explicit content, harems, or decisions.

All the family computer games, sega games, and most 2d action platformers..

Reason for the first 2 is cause you have to dedicate a huge amount of time (or memorize the game from mechanics to structure) in order to finish them (due to not having a save option/capability)..

I don't really remember a time in my life when I didn't love games. From the first time I played one, I was done for. My first game that I remember playing in the arcade was Pitfall. I spent my weekends putting quarters in games like Q-Bert, Pac Man, Space Invaders, Tron, Gyruss, etc.

I would love to be able to say one game turned me, but honestly? I can't remember a time when I wouldn't drop everything to play a video game. I think the biggest contribution to my gaming habits was getting out on my own It's hard to be much of a serious gamer on $5 a week allowance.

For NES I'd say Mario and Zelda were the two biggest impacts. Sega had Mortal Kombat and some really good RPGs. SNES had Final Fantasy. RPGs really took off with the PS1 though. Final Fantasy VII was jaw dropping when it came out. I'd say up until then, I'd never spent over 100 clocked hours on a single video game playthrough. Even now, it's one of the games I'd most like to see remade with updated graphics. Oh well, I settled for Crisis Core

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory wanted to see what pc fps where all about and being free and easy to run I gave it a try. Was the first game that really got me into online shooters on the pc then I gave Counter Strike 1.6/CZ a try and really got into those for a couple years.
