Set within the backdrop of the auto racing world, drama series "Speed" depicts the love, heartbreaks and maturation of four men and women.

Singer Soo Young of idol group "Girl's Generation" is considering taking the main female role of Dr. Seo Ji-Won.

Lee Jung-jae and Kim Hyun-joong to headline Speed?

Upcoming car racing drama Speed (I know, I know. I’m not in charge of the titles.) has lined up quite the interesting double-male-lead lineup, having secured Lee Jung-jae who’s been attached to the project for some time, and is now awaiting final decision from singer-actor Kim Hyun-joong (Playful Kiss), who is reportedly considering the role for his big comeback drama. That is one odd pair of male leads. I’m looking for a commonality… I’m looking… Maybe they both like cars? Yeah, I got nuthin’.

Speed is the new mega-blockbuster action drama from the director of IRIS, PD Yang Yoon-ho, and is set to air on cable upstart TV Joseon in the spring. It’s about two car racers who go head to head in a fierce rivalry, and their relationship also involves a star-crossed fate. Like with each other? Because I’ll tell ya, if you’re trying to convince me they got switched at birth, I’m probably going to need a pair of goggles.

Considering the female lead role is popstar Sooyoung, of Girls’ Generation, below. Speed is gearing up for a premiere in March, but given that it’s stunt- and action-heavy, the production will need all the lead time it can get. Let’s hope it’s at least a fun, adrenaline-fueled popcorn-flick kind of ride. If anyone so much as hints at the I-drive-to-fill-the-emptiness-inside-because-I-killed-my-father-in-a-car-accident storyline, Imma sucker punch somebody.

Speed airs March-April on cable network TV Joseon.

SNSD’s Sooyoung to play leading role in new drama, “Speed”

Taking a page from SNSD‘s YoonA, fellow member Sooyoung was revealed to have accepted a leading role in an upcoming drama.

Sooyoung was cast in TV Chosun‘s new drama, “Speed“, which delves into the world of competitive race car driving. Sooyoung will play the role of ‘Seo Ji Won‘, an orthopedist and team doctor of racing team ‘CKins’. With her tall height and lovely face, her character is much beloved and respected. Though she’s a cheerful person, her character also carries deep scars from losing her parents in a car accident when she was younger.

The director of “Iris“, director Yang Yun Ho, will be leading this production, which starts filming in December. Sooyoung will be working alongside actors Lee Jung Jae and Yoo Ah In.

The industry is buzzing with anticipation for Sooyoung’s leading role, as she already showed her potential as an actress through the 2008 KBS2TV sitcom, “Unstoppable Marriage“, and the film “Romance Comic“. She also made a short cameo in the SBS drama “Paradise Ranch“.

Kim Hyun-joong, drama "Speed" failed.

Kim Hyun-joong's drama return has failed. Kim Hyun-joong decided not to star in the TV Chosun drama "Speed". Kim Hyun-joong's management Key East stated, "We've thought it through but decided not to do it now".

Kim Hyun-joong has been concentrating on his singing career ever since the 2010 MBC drama "Naughty Kiss".

Previously, Kim Hyun-joong had mentioned in an interview at the 2011 MAMA, "I've postponed my world tour concert for a drama I've recently been cast in. I should be back early next year around April. It hasn't officially been announced yet".

Meanwhile, "Speed" is a blockbuster drama about car racing. It is directed by Yang Yoon-ho from movie "Fighter in the Wind" and KBS 2TV drama "IRIS".
