drifting isn't even real racing, the point of racing is to go around a track as fast as possible, when you drift your slow and therefore in a real race you lose. In my opinion drifting is in the same catagory as nascar, its just a joke.

have you tried drifting? can you hold a drift? do you even have a rear-wheel drive car? drifting in some opinions may not be classed as racing but it is a fully recognised and approved motorsport in at least 4 different continents. in D1GP is about scoring points judging on the entry angle in to a corner, how sideways the car is, the amount of smoke you produce, how stable the car is, how smooth the transition is from one corner to another if its like an S-bend or one with multiple corners like Laguna Seca unlike Tsukuba which is more geared for top end speed. theres probably more but thats all I can think of and the most basic thing is in drifting is control of the car, because you are oversteering and then 'controlling' it.

personally I can't drift my car lol because its an FF car but I make a good damn try at it and make people think its a 4wd because I don't have ABS and therefore no traction control!

I have drifted and i have held a drift through out a corner but thats because i went too hard into the corner and i got passed because of it. Maybe drifting is more like stunt riding and less like nascar but to me if you slide like that your slow and will get passed everytime. just my opinion.

thats fine but what you're doing is comparing drifting against someting else from a different side of motorsport and just stating the obvious.

drifting is fun, and expensive. with the right setup and seat time, most people can learn to drift. but it takes alotta skill to go pro. u gotta follow a race line (out, in, out) and never catch traction while trying to stay with ur competitor or pass them.

Your statement is certainly valid if we're talking wide tracks and drift events, and indeed a lot of drift events give you as many points for style as is the racing aspect.

Drifting's speed benefit comes from knowing that Japan's roads in many local and rural areas are so sharp and thin, that if you want to go fast at a corner, you'd have to know how to drift since some corners could even be as close to a 45 degree or smaller angle with a steep grade.

Sure, it'll drastically lower the speed of your car, but it'll also get you through a sharp turn at a fast rate and depending on experience, the fastest your car can go before possibly flipping over.

I wish I could drift. I don't have a car good enough. I've seen drifting and been in the passenger seat, and maybe drifted once or twice by accident. Not many guys want to trust a chick with their rides, let alone drifting their rides. Props to mira-kun for being a chick drifter.

i agreee, drifting isnt always the fastest route from a to b buts its mighty fun getting there and times there will be little slip and slide (hairpins where yanking your ebrake and kicking out is possibly better than trying to grip a tight hairpin. idk just my 2 cents

It's easy, here's what you do.

Pick a seat, not the driver seat. You're not driving. Get in, sit down, buckle up, and sit there.
