What's the simplest way to get this done? Crunchyroll has too many grouping options, and none of them are intuitive.

I want to get an email when a new episode arrives. Simple. Question is, how?

As far as I know, favorites are the way to go for email notifications.
However, after they added the queue, for some reason they deleted the favorite button from all of the anime pages. Very inconvenient, in my opinion.
It's still possible to favorite things, though it's a bit more complicated than previously.
1. Click the black down arrow, the one between your username and the search box.
(Click the spoilers to see guide pictures, I'll circle or point with an arrow to the things you need to click in red)

2. Find the link to your favorites. It's the seventh from the bottom. Click it.

3. Find the orange link that says "Edit/Sort This List". Click it.

4. Type the name of the series you would like to favorite into the "Add to list" box.

5. Find and click the orange option that matches what you're looking for.

6. Click the "Add Item" button, and it will be added as a favorite.

If you follow those directions, Crunchyroll should send you an email every week when your favorite anime has a new episode.

Yikes. Would have never figured that out on my own, thanks.

Hopefully they'll fix up this whole system in the new year.

Hmm. Doesn't look like it's working properly. Does the list itself have an option to receive e-mails?

Turns out I had Hanasaku Iroha in there, but I never did get an e-mail from Crunchyroll in my inbox concerning it during the summer season.

This is what I see in the E-Mail section of account settings:

Without any anime listed under Email Subscriptions? That's strange.
Favorited anime are listed on the Email Subscriptions page, as is the case with my list below:

If they aren't, it usually means they aren't subscribed to.
Are you sure you had Hanasaku Iroha favorited at that time?
If it's in the list, it should send you the notification e-mails, and there isn't a way to turn off the notifications without removing the favorite, as far as I know. Does your e-mail account have Crunchyroll blocked?
Try setting an anime that has an episode coming out soon as a favorite, to do a test.
Check if the email comes. If it does, it's possible that it was just a mistake in whether you actually had it as a favorite over the summer or not.
If it doesn't, Crunchyroll is probably either blocked from your email or you could have typed the wrong email when you registered.
I see you have Crunchyroll Takeout Newsletter checked. Are there also problems in receiving those emails?

Yep, get the newsletters okay.

Here's my favorites, and there's still nothing in my e-mail subscriptions. How needlessly confusing. Also funny how they mention using the Queue, but I don't see any interesting subscription features there either!

How odd...
I'm sorry, I don't think I can be of any further use in this problem.
Perhaps contacting one of the staff would help?

I think the problem is that your not using your official favorites list (named Favorite Shows). To create this list you'll need to add a series to favorites using the old method, which isn't available on links from official pages anymore. I think you'll have to use the "add to favorites" button on an unofficial page (for example, One Piece), and then edit that list like you done before.

Yep, that did it. Doing it from the favorites menu didn't work, only through anime pages that don't have shows did a real e-mail feed appear. Thanks.

Hope the process gets streamlined soon.
